He also served as mayor of Baltimore from 1893 to 1895 and again from 1897 to 1899. The original town site included land that now forms parts of Birmingham and Montgomery counties; however, it soon outgrew its initial boundaries and developed into a larger city with its own government and schools. In 1907, Trussville annexed part of Mobile County which made it one of only two cities in Alabama to have this extra jurisdiction. As a result of this annexation, Trussville became known as "The Most Electricity-Savvy City on Earth." Today, Trussville remains an important center for electrical engineering research due to its ample supply of high-quality power resources and its location near several major power plants

The Trussvilles were prominent landowners in the area and played an important role in early Trussville development. The town presently has a population of around 10,000 people. The history of Trussville began with Colonel James Trussell and his wife Martha Stephenson who moved to central Alabama from Kentucky in 1868 to start a new life as farmers. They started out farming land that they had purchased from the Indians. Colonel James Trussell was an important figure in earlyTrusville development and he helped make the town what it is today. He was also responsible for developing many of the local businesses including the post office, bank, school system, and more. The Stephensons are still active members of the community today and continue to play an important role in its development.
