In 1867, Junta City became a town after being chartered by members of Legislative Assembly under territorial governor George Vancouver. The first post office opened in Junction City on May 9, 1868.[9][10][11] In 1916, strikebreakers employed by US Steel Works dynamited local mills closed Junction City's only street car line; this destroyed much businessOpposition quickly developed among locals to what had been seen as a giveaway to organized labor at a time when control over industry was tightly concentrationate within company handsironically enough US Steel Works itself did not come into existence until 1934
