In 1890, the Apache Junction School District was established in Apache Junction. The school district served the community for over 100 years and is still in effect today. In 1928, the town of Apache Junction became a city and incorporation took place. The first mayor of Apache Junction was Gail Epps. The city had 4 wards which were Red Mesa, North Fork, South Fork, and White Sands. On July 1st 1920 City seal was changed to Indian headdress with “AJ” embroidered on it In 1945-46 during World War II the US Government requisitioned 5 rifle stocks from various manufacturers in order to arm troops stationed in Arizona. These rifles were used by local military forces as well as Civilian Guard Units throughout Arizona The rifles were acquired through what is known as the Lend-Lease program which allowed United States allies such as Great Britain to help finance World War II while retaining control of these weapons grade equipment
