During World War II, The Gun Store purchased firearms for use by the American military personnel stationed in Europe. In order to ensure that these firearms were not stolen or used against American troops, The Gun Store conducted an extensive security check on all of their products before they were released to consumers. In 1949, The Gun Store opened its own store in Casa Grande and continued operations until 1973 when it closed its doors permanently due to dwindling sales and competition from other merchants in the market place.

It lies on the eastern edge of a valley that forms the backbone of Arizona's Granite Mountains and is surrounded by ponderosa pine forests and BLM land. The community was founded in 1885 by George Custer's older brother, Clarence Custer. Clarence arrived with his cattle herd from Oregon and homesteaded around what would become Casa Grande. In 1890, he married Anna Maria Allred; they had three children: George (1892-1981), Florence (1894-1994) and Clarence Jr. (1896-1976). The Allreds farmed until their death in 1951. According to legend, when General Grant asked them where they were going to locate their new home for Congressman Charles Evans Hughes' inauguration on February 14th 1885, Clarence replied "Casa Grande". In 1907 Casa Grande became a city under charter from Pinal County but it lost its status as a city when it merged with neighboring Scotts Valley in 1912. In 1925 it became an incorporated town again after voters approved an amendment to the county charter providing for incorporation if there was no proposal from within Pinal County for cities to be established there within two years instead of one year as required under law then. In 1940 Casa Grande annexed parts of Surprise Valley which made it even bigger than before as Surprise Valley had been split between the towns since 1912 because some residents wanted to keep their own water supply while others wanted annexation into Casa Grande because they saw similarities between their communities and Scotts Valley (which at that time also consisted only of a few homes). When all these annexations happened residents living inside CASA GRANDE elected Mayor Harry Lieberman who served until his death in 1984 followed by Vice Mayor Don Hamer who served until 1990 when he too died suddenly at age 72 years old leaving office unoccupied due to health concerns which led to friction among the township's councils over succession planning; this issue was finally resolved when current Mayor David Hirsch took office in November 2009 after winning a campaign against incumbent Richard Prendergast by just over 2% of the vote despite being endorsed by both factions on election night... The first permanent settler in what is now Casa Grande was Manuel Garcia in 1881. By 1912 there were 372 people living in the town and it had a school and post office. In 1915 Gilbert J. White built his home on a hilltop east of town and named it after himself – Casa Grande (meaning "House of Garcia"). The name stuck and by 1920 there were 515 residents in Casa Grande. In 1925 Harry Laughlin opened the first store west of Phoenix at 214 N Main Street which became known as Laughlin's Store until 1977 when it closed due to bankruptcy. A second store opened on Main Street opposite Laughlin's about 1930 called The General Store by Leroy Hensley (the owner). An Adobe cabin also stood on Main Street from 1907 to 1927 operated by Gertrude Swenson as a hotel but was destroyed by fire in 1928; she rebuilt nearby with additions including an addition for her son-in-law, Roy Swenson who managed it until his death in 1984. On October 15, 1926 Wanda Ankney married Roy Swenson; they lived at Ankney Cabin until their divorce on August 2, 1969.) In 1951 Homer Eagleton organized farmers' markets throughout central Pima County during World War II to raise money for the war effort and sell food items such as canned goods, eggs, milk and other farm products not available locally or too expensive overseas.
