Eloy is a city located in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phoenix metropolitan area. The name "Eloy" comes from Spanish settlers who named it after their home province, "Ecuarón." The first European to arrive in what is now Eloy was José Antonio Reyes on July 18, 1847. Reyes and his party of six men explored some areas near present-day Eloy before journeying back eastward on September 12th. They built a small cabin and called it "Casilla de Reyes." A few weeks later they discovered goldbearing quartz veins west of them and decided to abandon their original plans to explore further west and strike it rich instead. On October 21st, 1847 José Santos Sánchez discovered copper mines at depth in what is now central Phoenix while prospecting for silver in northcentral Pinal County. This led to the town's establishment as mining camps mushroomed all around central Phoenix as soon as news reached traders of new gold finds around Tucson and Yuma Counties in southern Arizona Territory during the late 1840s. Gold discoveries continued until about 1870 when production peaked thanks to improvements made by Don Carlos Vallejo with his unsuccessful attempt toMindanao Land Grant Act (1868). At this time mining operations took on a more culturally based character with men not just finding but also smelting ores from local hillsides using opencast methods which produced high profits but also created huge environmental problems due to contact with washing water supplies that became polluted with lead and other heavy metals over time. Mining towns sprang up all over central Phoenix because of this boom; one example being Globe City which had its beginnings in 1872 when two prospectors found large deposits of gold near downtown Eloy Springs despite efforts by Vice President Millard Fillmore to stop the spread ofmining into eastern Phoenix proper during that year’s presidential campaign against James Kasterner (D). In 1886 an act was passed entitled “An Act for Declaring an Establishment of Schools within this District” which provided for free education for children between the ages of 6 months and eight years old starting on April 1st following submission by parents or guardians thereof petitions state board members carrying signatures representing 25 percent or more citizens residing within any school district then existing therein within 30 days after such petition shall have been delivered personally or sent by registered mail ballot mailed through certified mail addressed To: Board Of Education For Zone 8b Arizonas – Room 226 West Central AvenuePhoenix AZ 85024 In compliance witethis law an additional 150 children per day were added onto the rolls thereby providing schooling opportunities for our citizens throughout our district without taxation without representation! Eloy was first settled in 1867 by the Hispanics of Sonora. The town's name is derived from the Spanish word "eloy," meaning a place of peace or security. The site for Eloy was chosen because of its strategic location at the junction of two routes leading to California and Arizona. In 1903, Eloy became part of the larger municipality of Pinal County. In 1912, Pinal County merged with Mohave County to form Maricopa County. In 1928, Maricopa County annexed parts of Yuma County, creating what is now Phoenix-Maricopa Valley area. The population of Eloy increased rapidly after World War II when farmers brought in new land to cultivation and businesses began opening up in the town. The population peaked at around 509 in 1966 but fell gradually over the next few decades as more people moved away and jobs left town. In 2000, Eloy had a population of just under 400 residents; by 2010 it had declined to just 100 residents due to retirements and other declines in business activity within the community
