Construction began on Interstate 10 near present-day Mesa Street and White Avenue in 1961 with completion scheduled for 1967. The first phase of I-10 between US 60th Street east of downtown Flagstaff and US 60th Street west of downtown Flagstudt included three lanes wide with curbside service available on all ramps except exit 5 which still features stoplights at each interchange.
