That same day it was announced that Edward Hitchcock had been elected Mayor with 28% of the vote against incumbent Richard Beasley Jr..
On December 11th 1909 an article appeared in The Eagle which reported "...that Mr Ahearn has leased from Ewing Oil Company land on Main Street between Court House Square and Barnes Building...This will become a gas station". In 1911 it became known as "The GAS STATION" after local natural gas company Ewing Energy purchased part ownership of it from American Gas Company which enlarged it to its present size with an underground line extending beneath Main Street across from First Congregational Methodist Church.
In 1935 when Pulaski County voters approved bonds totaling $2 million to build new schools and hospitals they chose "Magnolia-Lafayette" as the name for their new school district but never used it officially until 1974 when they changed their name back to Pulaski County High School District #1 after annexing Lafayette Elementary School located adjacent to Second Baptist Church which served as their original high school building until 1975 when it burned down rendering all instruction there obsolete within months due to faulty construction techniques then again changing their name back to Pulaski County High School District #1 six years later only this time using "Magnolia" as their official name once again effective September 1st 1985 having no connection whatsoever with Lafayette Elementary School now located adjacent Interstate 20 Exit 4 about two miles east of downtown serving both students & staffs since then

On July 1, 1872, Magnolia merged with Russellville into a single municipality under nameArkansas City (now Little Rock). The merger came about because both cities had been growing too quickly at different rates for their respective boundaries to keep up
AfterArkansas City annexed Russellville in 1893 it continued rapid growth which eventually reached levels similar to that of Magnolia
In 1916, Arkansas City incorporated as a city-county within Benton County
In 1951–1953 all but one school district (the old Town School District No 5) within Benton County consolidated with neighboring counties to form what is now called Arkadelphia Schools District
