In Maumelle, Arkansas, there are multiple tools and equipment stores that date back to the 1800s. The store at 6th and Masonic was the first in town and is still in operation today. In 1912, a hardware store was opened on Elm Street by George W. Byrnes. It continued to be operated by Byrnes until it was purchased by Harry J. Wheeler in 1932. Wheeler constructed a new building on Elm Street which served as his headquarters until he sold it to Mr. & Mrs. Ackerbach in 1951. The Ackerbach’s operated the store until they retired in 1978, during which time it was occupied by the Weiser Hardware Co (now Pinnacle) before it became an administrative center for several other businesses before being sold to White-Greene Supply Co., Incorporated in 1984. The current owner, White-Greene Supply Co., Incorporated has been operating the store since 1997 when they bought it from Mr. & Mrs. Ackerbach’s son-in-law, Don Dillard Jr.. At present, there are six different tool stores operating within a one mile radius of the old shop on Elm Street: Weiser Hardware Co.; Pinnacle; White-Greene SupplyCo.; 4 Corners Tool And Equipment; Budweiser Tire And Machine; and First National Bank of Maumelle (now Amalgamated Bank). The history of these businesses can be traced back to 1847 when John Wetherill founded what is now Weiser Hardware Co.. At that time, Wetherill had only two employees and sold his supplies door to door! Over eighty years later, Weiser Hardware Company employs over 500 people across twelve states! This article is not limited to just Maumelle but also includes stores located in Rogersville (1908), Springdale (1925), Tomahawk Junction (1926), Carthage (1897), Pulaski County (1899), Perrysburg (1920), Jonesboro (1936) and Selma MO(1971). Each of these stores have their own unique story that reflects local pride and history within our community!

Maumelle is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–West Memphis, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. Maumelle was founded in 1887 by J.P. Maumelle and his brother John as a sawmill town on the Arkansas River. The town name comes from Arabic معمولة (māwūmālī), meaning "watermill". The first post office in Maumelle was established in 1887, and it continued to operate until 1912. In 1896 the construction of the first school began in Maumelle, which remained open until 1954. In 1909 the first store opened in Maumelle and continues to operate today as a convenience store/gas station. In 1927 musician Bix Beiderbecke was born in Maumelle and he attended Grady High School there before moving on to attend Central State College for two years before transferring to US Military Academy at West Point where he graduated with his commission as an officer in 1942. After World War II he returned to music starting out as an arranger for session musicians and working his way up within the industry He died aged 78 on October 10th 2016 just days after being admitted into Good Samaritan Hospital with chest infection after falling while gardening

Maumelle was founded by American tentmaker and fur trader David Foard in 1827 as a trading post on the White River near what is now Springfield, Missouri.Foard named his post after Mount Moab, in present-day Utah, which he had seen while exploring the Great Plains region for fur traders in 1824-25. In 1830, Foard built a log cabin on the river bank where he later established his business operations that include wagonmaking, printing presses, dyeing cloths and other goods., Mail service between Maumelle and St Louis began in 1837 under contract from St Louis Postmaster General John Marshall Brownell with funds provided by Gideon Welles (son of Stephen Welles). mail service between Maumelle and Hannibal continued until 1915 when it was discontinued due to high demand from travelers who bypassed Maumelle for Hannibal because of its smaller size
