Maumelle, Arkansas is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It lies north of Little Rock on the Arkansas River. The first residents in what is now Maumelle were people who had moved from Illinois during the American Civil War. They named their community after General David Forrest's daughter, Mary Magdalen (Maudie) Forrest. The first post office in Maumelle was established in 1865 and was called "Fayetteville." A fire destroyed most of Fayetteville in 1868, so the new post office changed its name to "Maumelle" in honor of General David Forrest's daughter. The original store burned down in 1872 but two years later a new store built by Wm. Hays opened and continued to be used until it caught on fire again in 1886 which destroyed it. In 1887 an addition to the town was built by Jno. Meeks which became known as "Meadowlark". In 1909 Maumelle lost its city charter and became a village under government control with a mayor and five-member board of trustees; however, due to its location within Pulaski County it still maintained some aspects of a local government including education and public health services that are still provided today through Village Health District No. 2 (VHD No 2). In 1935 VHD No 2 merged into the present day Pulaski County Department of Health Services when all state government facilities within Pulaski County were consolidated into one department pursuant to Governor Orval Faubus' executive order #1 (EONo 1). Since 1915 there has been an annual summertime corn festival at Old Fort Park located just northeast of town center where farmers from miles around come together for traditional corn-based entertainment such as rodeo events, agricultural contests and music on three days during July/August each year attracting over 30,000 visitors!

Maumelle is the oldest town in Arkansas and one of the most important historical sites. It was founded in 1836 by Mormons who arrived from Deseret, Utah. The Mormon settlers were followed by other groups of people who arrived over time, and Maumelle became a small agricultural community. The town was first named Nauvoo because of the large number of Mormons living there at that time. soon after, other groups started arriving in Maumelle and it began to grow quickly. In 1849, Governor James K. Polk issued a proclamation calling for all citizens of the United States to unite against slavery and supporting free labor instead. This event helped create a sense of community among the residents and gave them a sense of purpose. In 1855, Maumelle voted to become an independent city Limits on the east side of Main Street between First Street and Railroad Avenue. On November 3rd, 1855, as part of that vote, Mayor John Witherspoon appointed Aiken Witherspoon as the first city judge. This event signaled a new era for Maumelle as it marked an official start to its growth as an independent city with its own government. From then on untilpresent day, Maumelle has been known for its vibrant culture and strong economy which has made it one of Arkansas's most popular tourist destinations

Maumelle was a small town in the Ozarks of Arkansas. It is now a ghost town, and its only remaining building is a post office. The first permanent settler in what is now Maumelle was John Neely, who arrived in 1839. The community grew rapidly after the discovery of oil in1862, as towns were established all around the state by people looking to exploit this new resource. By 1865, Maumelle had over 200 residents and was home to two churches and three schools. A big reason why Maumelle prospered during its early years was because it enjoyed excellent transportation connections: The railroad came through the area in both directions, which made it easy for businesses to come and go. Additionally, there were numerous mills and factories located close by that contributed to the town's economic development. However, due to natural gas discoveries near nearby Fort Smith (now Arkansas),Maumelle began to decline in popularity during the late 1800s. By 1912, only a few hundred people remained inside the walls of Maumelle – most of whom had moved away for work at nearby mines or factories. Despite this decline, however, some civic activities continued until 1945 when all traces ofMaumelle vanished from history altogether."
