In recent years it has seen an increase in Hispanic settlement which has led to increased cultural diversity within the community; however, mountain home remains largely white Protestant with no Latino residents

In 1867, the United States built Mountain Home as a stop on the stagecoach from Memphis to Fort Smith. The town's first store was established in 1868 and by 1870, it had a population of about sixty residents. By 1875, the population had risen to one hundred and thirty-five people. In 1879, the Union Pacific Railroad began building a line from Memphis to Fort Smith through Mountain Home and nearby Leavenworth. The railroad allowed for faster travel between Memphis and Fort Smith and increased business opportunities for Mountain Home. Residents quickly realized that they could not rely on the stagecoach service to transport goods and services to their townships; they needed an efficient transportation system in order to keep pace with the growing businesses in their area. In 1901, when Arkansas became a state, Mountain Home became part of Little Rock. Businesses grew rapidly in Little Rock because it was an important location for interstate commerce. With more than two thousand residents living in Little Rock at any given time, it was difficult for small towns like Mountain Home to keep up with the growth of their larger counterparts. However, over time, some of these small towns have regained some of their former glory by starting new businesses or developing new initiatives that distinguishing them from other smaller communities.
