The history of shooting target holders in Rogers, Arkansas began with the first targets being hung from a post on the property of A.H. Beardsley in 1909. Mr. Beardsley was a part of the early effort to promote rifle and shotgun shooting in Rogers. He donated his land to the city for use as a Shooting Range and also provided support for many local organizations that promoted firearm safety and training opportunities for citizens. The First National Rifle Association (FNA) was founded in 1907 inRogers, Arkansas and has been responsible for promoting gun safety education throughout the United States ever since. In 1919, FNA moved its headquarters from New York City to Arlington, Virginia after becoming one of the first organization to affiliate with an American Rifleman magazine (now The NRA). From 1919-1927, Mrs. John Wesson organized shoots at various locations across Rogers including our current facility which is located on Biddle Street between Walnut and Elm Streets. Mrs. Wesson’s efforts helped develop what is now known as Open Target Shooting Program within FNA which provides memberships and instruction opportunities for residents of all ages interested in learning how to shoot safely with rifles or shotguns indoors or outdoors using traditional targets such as pigeons, squirrels, rabbits etc... In 1951-1953, Mr. Walter Jorgensen sponsored open target shooters events weekly at his home on North Main Street which attracted people from all over Rogers County to participate in fun competition lasting two hours each week during late fall/early winter months when there was no school let out that week! These events were very popular among residents who enjoyed getting together outside without having any fear of getting injured while playing “Targets”!Target Holder History - From 1909 To 1951

In 1902, it was renamed Rogersville after General James J. "Bull" Connor, who served as military governor of Arkansas from 1901 to 1903. In 1915, the post office was moved to Rogersville from North Little Rock and became one of the few towns in Pulaski County with both an mail service and a post office box. The first school in Rogers was built in 1909 and operated until 1961; later that year, it became an agricultural high school known as Rogers Agricultural College. In 1972, it merged with Arkansas State Teachers' Union High School to become Rogers State Technical Institute (RSTI). In 1984-85, RSTI changed its name toArkansas State University –Rogers when the main campus opened in NorthLittleRock on Park Avenue near Interstate 30/US 61/SR 528. In 2006-2007, renovation work began at SR 528 & I-30 interchange which included reconstruction of four bridges over White River & construction of new ramps for I-30 eastbound & westbound; this project also added two blocks north of current university campus onto existing parkland adjacent to freeway & Main Street intersection; this project cost $14 million[1] . The new University Campus includes a football stadium ( demolished ), large baseball stadiums ( renovated ), two dormitories (& 2 student housing buildings), library (& several research labs), fitness center (& 300+ sq ft recreation area), amphitheater (& several dozen pickup spots for sports events) - making it one of largest university campuses within US limits[2].
