Searcy, Arkansas is located in the Ozarks of western Missouri. The population was 9,500 at the 2000 census. It is a small town with a single-lane zip code and an economy based largely on agriculture. The first settlers in Searcy were farmers who arrived around 1876. They grew corn, beans, cotton, potatoes and other crops. After World War II, the town became a bedroom community for residents of nearby Springfield. In the early 1990s, Searcy began to experience economic decline as a result of changes in local agricultural prices and growth in neighboring jurisdictions. In 2003, Searcy voters passed a referendum approving annexation by neighboring Jefferson City. This move increased the number of people living in Searcy from 1 to 3 thousand; however it did not improve its economic status. In 2007-2008, Searcy was hit hard by Tropical Storm Floyd which caused heavy damage to both homes and businesses across the community. Many people lost their jobs as well as their homes; however there have been recent efforts to improve life for residents by creating new businesses and developing new tourism opportunities within the town limits

Searcy is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Pulaski County. The community was founded in 1871 by settlers from Illinois and named after Captain John Searcy of the USS Constitution. The first post office in Searcy was established on February 12, 1872. It was renamed Searcy on January 15, 1886 to honor General Daniel Kearny's visit to that location two weeks earlier. On October 11, 1907, a fire destroyed most of the town center but left only a small building standing which still serves as the visitor center for Searcy Township Historical Museum (now known as the Searcy Village Museum). In 1899-1900, construction began on what would become known as "Arkansas' First White Water rafting attraction", now known as Ark Encounter Park. The park opened in 1901 and became an important tourist destination for residents of Searcy and neighboring towns until it closed in 1979 due to budget cuts by then Governor Orval Faubus. A new shopping mall called Northgate Mall opened in 2003 adjacent to Ark Encounter Park; however popular attendance at Ark Encounter Park declined during its closure hastening its eventual demolition in 2009; replaced by an all-purpose park with more than 20 rides and attractions including an amusement park complete with water drop zones and life-sized dinosaurs/trees/swimming pools/etc., which failed to generate enough revenue to cover costs despite numerous attempts by developers over time. In 2016 Northgate Mall operator Great American Plaza announced they were closing all stores within one year starting November 1st due to low attendance numbers so that ARK ENCHANTMENT PARK could close its doors permanently effective December 31st 2017 According to the 2010 US Census there are 1,811 people living in 429 households residing within 8 blocks of downtown Searcytown limits: 585 Main Street eastward up through 3rd Avenue South; 512 First Street southward along 2nd Avenue West; 4 Third Avenue westward from Market Street northward; 10 Fourth Street eastward from Market Street southward According to Arkansas’ 2014 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report prepared by THE ASSET MANAGEMENT GROUP LLP., $36 million dollars worth of bonds were issued between APRIL 2014 AND JUNE 2015 for improvements at ARK ENCHANTMENT PARK such as new trails & restaurants inside&outside park - this included approximately $21 million dollars for developing land around riverfront area where riverboat tours operate daily & outdoor concerts are also held annually
