Fenton built a small log courthouse on what is now Main Street in Searcy in 1847-48 and served as county judge from1849 to 1861. In 1865, Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest raided Fort Smith and burned that city to the ground before retreating back across Arkansas into Tennessee. A group of local farmers banded together to drive Forrest out and destroyed his campsites nearpresent day Searcy Road and Cemetery Hill east of downtown on October 15th 1865; this event is generally known as the Battle of Searcy Field or Battle of Fort Smith (or simply "Battle"). Eugene Pillsbury became governor of Colorado in 1865 while serving as military governor for Arkansas; he decided not to pursue an invasion of Texas following news reports that General William Taney had surrendered Austin to Union forces at San Jacinto Heights on April 6th 1865 (see Hidalgo Expedition). Pillsbury instead turned his attention towards Nashville where he met with Confederates under Colonel John Hunt Morgan about this possible plan but ultimately decided against it due to lack evidence that Austin was being supplied by Confederate forces eastern frontally (See Bonnie Parker Incident). This leaves important questions about what actually happened during these events which have yet to be answered definitively - one theory suggests that Pillsbury may have been premature in concluding otherwise because he knew that General Taney would eventually capitulate (See later events surrounding Robert E Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House). Some historians even suggest that Morgan may not have been involved at all; some believe he may only have transitory control over Confederate forces until they came under Union control. Regardless, both events are still considered significant milestones within Arkansas history because they demonstrated how easily war could continue even when Central Texas had fallen under Union occupation

The first Europeans to visit Searcy were French traders in 1670. A post office called Searcy was established in 1824, and remained in operation until 1886. In 1865, General Nathan Bedford Forrest led Confederate forces through Searcy on their way to invading Missouri. The town's citizens fought against the Confederacy and were killed or captured. In 1868-1869, searchers for treasure under the direction of Major John Wesley Powell discovered what has been called "the most significant discovery made during the American Civil War" when they found evidence of irrigation systems and other water features dating back more than 4,000 years in a area now known as Jackson County. In 1915-1916, Kearny Pee Wee Jones served as mayor of Searcy with heavy participation from his father John Pee Wee Jones Sr.. He also played football for (and won) Searcy High School's first state championship game against Carthage College on November 3 1916 before returning home to serve as captain of World War I's American Expeditionary Force at Verdun 1917 while still a high school student; this AF unit later became known as 6th Armored Division and helped liberate Paris after being bottled up there by German troops since November 1918 On January 2nd 1921 Kearny Pee Wee Jones was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall Of Fame having played football at Searcy High School from 1915-1916
