Sherwood, Arkansas is located in the Ozarks of northwest Arkansas. The population was 9,859 as of the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1907 by a group of farmers who named it after their home state of Illinois. In 1911, gunmen from nearby Bentonville staged a raid on Sherwood's grocery store and killed six people, including the town's first mayor. The first handgun magazine to be published in Sherwood was the "Arkansas Gazette" which began publication in 1912. It was followed by "The Arkansan" in 1916 and "Arkansas Rifle & Pistol Journal" in 1920. The magazines were owned and edited by local businessmen until 1964 when they were purchased by Lewis Publications Incorporated. In 1935,Sherwood Elementary School moved from its original location near Masonic Temple to its present site east of town. It is one of two schools (the other being Springdale Elementary) serving all of Pulaski County with grades PK-8th grade; both are located within walking distance of their respective campuses downtowns. The old high school building now houses the library for the local community college which also uses it as a classroom for special needs students during term times when classes are not possible at either elementary or secondary schools due to lack of space elsewhere on campus.

However, by that year some residents had already started to leave for better opportunities elsewhere because of high taxes and other problems within the community such as inadequate schools and poor infrastructure. In 1918-1919 a large school building project known as "The Great Schoolhouse Renaissance" was undertaken by local Republicans with help from Ark-Pulaski Oil Co., Inc.. After years of construction it finally opened its doors on December 12th 1919 to much fanfare from locals and tourists alike! The school held classes until 1984 when it closed due to budget cuts by then Governor Mike Huckabee's administration; however many of its components still remain standing today including classrooms (now used as meeting rooms), kitchenettes (now used as restrooms), gymnasium (now used as storage) and even portions of roofline which can be seen from Highway 4 outside of town!
