Springdale is a small town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,208 at the 2010 census. It lies along the Little Rock-Fayetteville highway and is east of Fayetteville. They reached Pryor's Fork on July 12 when they encountered hostile Indian warriors who killed one white man and took four horses including Brown's horse Black Hawk. Americana Township was organized in 1821 as part of a larger move by settlers into what is now Pulaski County in an effort to consolidate land holdings stretching back several decades around this area where ranching had become an important factor in early life. In 1827, Springs Ferry on the Arkansas River was built by wagon road builders as an interchange between two branches of the main trunk road coming down from Nashville, Tennessee via Texas City on the Red River Gorge into eastern Arkansas Territory then known as Louisiana Territory before it became Oklahoma Territory. The town began growth quickly due largely to its location at this crossing point; goods going eastbound or westbound either stopped here or traveled further downriver until Junction Road came along about 1830 bypassing Springs Ferry making it easier for travelers to reach Springfield also located on Pryor's Fork but growing much more slowly because there were no available transportation links other than wagons drawn by animals driven over long distances over difficult terrain
