Springdale is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 1,331 at the 2010 census. Springdale was established in 1881 and named for John Sprague Springett, an early settler. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first post office in Springdale was established on April 14, 1881, and it served until May 15, 1888. The present post office was established on December 12, 1902. The first school in Springdale was a one-room log cabin called "Fenway" which served as the local school from 1883 to 1889. In 1886 a new school building was built (later renamed "Springdale") which housed both the local schools and the Pulaski County Courthouse during its short life span. Today's Springdale community began to form when white settlers arrived in what is now Pulaski County in 1881. John Sprague Springett donated land to create what would become Springdale Township. The township had no native residents but did include some Native American natives who were amongsprings of many of the early families that settled hereabouts including: Sprague family (from Massachusetts), Peck family (from Virginia), Hanks family (from Kentucky), Davis family (from Georgia), Grimes family (originally from Illinois). The first settler to arrive hereabouts were George Witherspoon and his brother Nicholas Witherspoon who came through Arkansas via Missouri on their way to Indian Territory where they intended to purchase land south of Wichita River. When they reached Arkansas they found a empty area with only cedar trees standing so they proceeded downriver whereupon they discovered fresh water flowing into this same river by means of a ford just across from their current location today's town site! They named this spot "Sprague's Ford" after John Spraguespringett whose donation it became and thus founded SPRIGE & SONS MOUNTAIN VIEW FARMING CO., LIMITED - one of the original cotton mills in Pulaski County! Many other families followed suit over ensuing years until finally all 235 square miles comprising present day Pulaski County were developed into present day Springdale Township by 1907 when two other townships - KNOXVILLE POST OFFICE CORPUS CHRISTI AND SPRINGDALE - joined forces with SPRIGE & SONS MOUNTAIN VIEW FARMING CO., LIMITED thereby creating one large contiguous municipality! The Springdale Arsenal was built in 1881 and continues to produce ammunition for the U.S. military today. The first settlement in what is now Springdale was made by Europeans on March 14, 1784 when Frenchmen and Americans trading post were established at present day milepost 11 on I-40 between Jonesboro and Rogersville. In 1821, General John Cordon led an army through Arkansas to suppress a slave rebellion known as the Mountain Meadows Massacre which took place near present day Springdale after several white settlers were killed by slaves who had been released from captivity in California during the Mexican War (1846-48). One of these freed slaves, Stephen Fenton, moved to Arkansas and began ranching here with his family near what would become Springdale. In 1885 Fenton donated land for a public school system which became known as Dixie School District No. 1 after he gave control of his property to that organization over Memorial Day Weekend in 1886. This event also helped spur development around present day Springdale due to increased business opportunities available from people traveling across state lines looking for new markets for their products because of abolitionist efforts nationally during this time period; some travelers even stopping at Dixie School District #1 along I-40 en route to other parts of the country such as Missouri or Texas where slavery was still legal
