Van Buren is a town in Pulaski County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 2,585 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Little Rock–North Little Rock–Pulaski, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1881 by Daniel W. Van Buren and his brother-in-law George Gentry as an agricultural township. The name was changed to Van Buren in 1907 when the state of Arkansas acquired part of Pulaski County from Jesse Benton and others. The name change occurred because just north of Van Buren on State Route 375 (now US Highway 6) lay what would become known as the Arkansas River Valley; this area had been under Spanish control for much of its history and the name "Van Buren" suggested that people living near or on the river valley might share some common features with that ruling dynasty. In 1908, a post office was established at Van Buren and remained in operation until it closed in 1964. The first store opened at Van Buren in 1881, operated by Daniel W. vanBuren and his brother-in-law George Gentry. A two-story frame building served as the store's first floor until 1902 when a new four-story frame building was built which still stands today as a local landmark. In 1902, an elevator service arrived in town which soon became popular among residents for getting high into the hills around town during summertime celebrations such as Fourth of July parades and other community events held throughout Pulaski County! It wasn't until 1928 when electricity started being brought to town through lines extending out from Little Rock via Iberia Springs that many businesses began opening up within town limits! By 1930, most businesses had moved out or were closing down due to competition from outside sources with only one remaining business - Mr & Mrs Tichenor's grocery - remaining open until it closed down too late for preservation reasons! In 1942, after World War II ended and local manufacturing options dried up due to difficult economic times following peacetime Naval disarmament Requirements all businesses within Town Limits shuttered except for Mrs & Mr Tichenor's grocery which reopened successfully several months later having purchased back their old premises next door! The store remains open to this day today - now called "The Old Store", serving as an active locally owned business nucleus withinVanBurens vibrant fabrications thrives once again today!

In 1827, Van Buren was elected as the 6th Governor of Arkansas from the U.S. state of Arkansas. He served one term before leaving office to become a U.S. Senator from Arkansas in 1829 and 1830.
