After years of drought hit Southern California during the 1930s (and continued through World War II), prices for crops like oranges dropped off dramatically making agriculture less profitable than other industries throughout much of Northern California and especially along Interstate 5 which crossed both sides of town; however not so much in Agoura Hills where Oranges remained an important crop until around 1970 when operations became too costly due to changing soil composition]. However following passage through Ronald Reaganomics which increased funding for agricultural research programs (the Golden Horseshoe project) Oranges began again becoming a significant crop here beginning around 2003; however currently production only reaches about 6000 bushels/acre on average]..
