Apple Valley is a small town in the San Joaquin Valley of California, about 30 miles east of Sacramento. The population was 4,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Modesto–El Dorado County metropolitan area. Apple Valley has been inhabited by Native Americans since beforewritten records were kept. The first white settlers were prospectors who traveled through this region during the Gold Rush in 1849-1850. The village of Apple Valley was founded in 1864 by John Sutter and his brother-in-law, William Irvine. In 1868, Wm. Irvine donated land to establish a post office and store on what is now southside intersection of Central Avenue and South Street. A school opened in 1870 and remained open until 1914 when it merged with nearby Redding to form the current Apple Valley School District. In 1893, Augustus Kelley started an apple orchard on what is now east side of Route 50 between South Main Street and Highland Avenue. He named it "Kelley Orchard". In 1907, after Kelley's death, his estate passed to his son Edgar Kelley Jr., who continued to operate it until 1951 when it became part of the present day Apple Valley School District

They set up farms near what is now Orinda and built a dam to irrigate their land. In 1872, John Tilton settled in what is now Apple Valley and bought an acreage for $10 that he would later subdivide into blocks and sell for $60 per acre. From Tilton's start as one of the early pioneers of Apple Valley, until his death in 1911, many other families followed suit and started outowning their holdings in apple orchards. Today there are more than 150 apple orchards scattered throughout Apple Valley including some that have been around since before 1850 when John Atherton patented his idea for growing Apples on Trees. Other famous local apples include Honeycrisp (cinnamon), Golden Delicious (grape), Rome (raspberry), Jonathan Apples (oranges), Braeburn (apple) and Honeycrisp Granny Smith apples which are tart enough but still sweet inside with a slightly sour skin texture. There are also several wineries nearby including J&JWinery where you can buy wine by the bottle or case as well as fall wines such as Pumpkin Pie Wines by Dry Creek Winery and Blueberry Wine by Huckleberry Finn Vineyard. Apple Valley is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California. The population was 17,971 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The townsite of Apple Valley was named for an orchard which grew on the site in 1873. In 1907, the first post office opened in Apple Valley with a staff of five people. The name "Apple Valley" has been used ever since as the name for both the community and the post office. Apple Valley had its start as a small farming town located on a riverbank between San Bernardino County and Riverside County. By 1915, however, many farmers had moved to subdivide their land into large blocks and there were few farms left within range of town itself. The only way to get around this problem was by boat; it took over two hours to get from one end of town to another, so transportation became an important factor in early development here. As early as 1922, Apple Valley began planning its own school district which would serve all of san Bernardino County rather than having districts served by schools within each county's boundaries. This decision saved taxpayers money and allowed for more efficient teaching methods that would be adopted nationwide later on. Even though public schools were established in 1925-27 (thanks largely to donations from Mrs John Fenton), it wasn't until 1944 when either Apple Valley High School or San Bernardino Junior College opened their doors that students truly started flowing into these institutions; prior to that time most students lived near home or attend local high schools which often fielded teams playing against each other in interscholastic sports competitions etc., not really resembling college-level competition outside of academic requirements (very much like today). In 1958-1959 they built new gymnasiums costing $1 million dollars and named them after Mrs Elizabeth Wolk (1896-1982) who contributed $200K towards construction costs alone! She also gave her blessings to both buildings being dedicated - something she frequently did back then because such events meant alot to her personally – through special ceremonies held at both locations following close call during World War II when many members of her family lost their lives tragically due To Japanese aggression & destruction across Asia including San Bernardino County (& Northern Californias too!). Many thanks go out also to Mrs Darlene Purdy (1947-2013) for funding & fundraising efforts associated with restoration/replacing original windows/doors throughout building over several years starting with just one old window brought down almost 20 feet off Foundation & rehung from solid oak 2 stories tall!

Apple Valley, California was founded in 1879 by John S. Moffitt and his wife Eliza. The first store was opened on Spring Street in Apple Valley. In 1886, the Moffitts sold their land to Edward Haggerty and started a new business, the Haggerty-Moffitt Grain Mill. The mill produced flour for local markets and also exported flour to other states. In 1912, the mill was bought by Wm. J. Weisman and changed its name to the Weisman Grain Mill Company. The mill continued production until it closed in 1973.
