The first store opened in Banning on December 12, 1855. The town quickly became an important transportation center for the region. In 1907, Banning became part of the city of Fresno. In 1923, Jens Jensen started farming land northeast of Trinity Park that became Banning Canyon Golf Course which now attracts over 1 million visitors annually. In 1930, there were only 10 residents living in BanNING with just one school and six businesses including two grocery stores, two banks and one hospital In 1940 there were 20 residents living in BanNING with five schools and sixteen businesses including three banks and one hospital . During World War II most locals served in military units such as Marines or Navy Seamen while others worked on farms raising cattle or growing crops; however some did form their own civic organizations like the Citizens League which opposed Prohibition politics within their community

The town's first store opened in 1893 and its first school was built in 1895; both were destroyed by fire in 1922. In 1934, Banning became an incorporated city after voters passed a referendum calling for it to be so by resolution from the Board of Supervisors. In 2009, Banning celebrated its centennial with festivities including a parade through downtown streets named for pioneer women pioneers like Alice Pickett Fowler and Jennie Lacy Oldfield-Ford Banning experiences summer heat waves that can reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) during day time temperatures up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius) at night; this phenomenon is also known as "the red heat". Fall weather sees average temperatures drop below 50 degrees F (10 degrees C), although there are some warm days during winter months when highs exceed 60 degrees F (15 degrees C). Winter precipitation averages around 12 inches per year but varies highly due to extremely dry spells which have averaged less than one tenth of an inch annually since records began in 1911!
