The Bell Gardens gunsmith shop was founded in 1892 by W.M.D. Brown and his son, Harry Brown. The shop specialized in firearms repair and sales. In 1916, the shop was moved to its current location at 10th Street and Western Avenue in Bell Gardens. The Brown family continued to operate the store until 1949 when it was sold to George Ahern of San Francisco who operated it until he sold it to John Ziegler in 1957. The present owners are Ira Schlosser (owner since 1990) and his wife, Barbara Schlosser (founder in 1984). The history of firearms is deeply rooted within Bell Gardens’ community as well as its gunsmiths who have been responsible for creating some of California’s most cherished weapons such as the Thompson submachine Gun, revolver, shotgun, rifle, pistols and shotguns over a century ago.
