Belmont is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 8,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay Area and had a population of 21,471 as of July 1, 2016. The first Europeans to visit Belmont were Juan Bautista de Anza and his party in 1769. They stopped at Belmont for two days before continuing their journey to Alcatraz Island. The site that would become Belmont was granted Rancho Noriega to José Joaquin Moraga in 1828. The town began to form around this time with manyesteads being built along the El Camino Real corridor. In 1846, it was incorporated as a city under the name of San Francisco. However, due to its location on the border between Contra Costa County and Marin County it experienced rapid growth during the Gold Rush era which led to its incorporation into City Hall on May 15, 1850 as “Belmont” with an estimated population of 10 people. Citizens quickly realized that they needed more amenities such as a fire department and police force so they embarked upon a campaign to get city officials elected who were then able to create these services within minutes or hours after taking office! In 1872 when City Council extended full voting rights back to citizens they renamed it “Belmont” once again with an estimated population of 50 people because residents wanted their city not just known for its rich history but also for having opportunities for social mobility! On October 11th 1870 when local voters passed Proposition 6 which repealed all previous taxes levied against the town by Marin county including property tax rates amounting up to $2 per acre levied against what was then called “Belmont”! This vote made sense given that much property deed evidence exists from this period showing that vast majority ofbelmonters lived east of Highway 101 outside of downtown (now part of San Francisco) until after Prop 6 went into effect !!!!!
Belmont is a small town in the southern Sierra Nevada foothills of California. It is located about an hour's drive from Reno and about two hours from Yosemite National Park. The population was 2,019 as of the 2010 census. Belmont is a tiny community that easily fits into its surroundings - it lies just outside of the city limits on a small hillock sandwiched between watersheds carved by rushing waterfalls and rolling hills. Belmont Creek flows through the center of town, while North Creek empties into it southbound at a junction with South Creek. A short distance to the west, another creek – West Creek – joins Belmont Creek just beyond its intersection with North Creek. The beginnings of what would become Belmont date back to 1853 when wagon trains entering California passed through here on their way northwards. In 1865, James Cranch laid out land for himself and others near present-day downtown Belmont; this became known as Cranch Rancho (later renamed Spring Valley). In 1876, John Dutton purchased some land east of today's downtown from Cranch and began developing it as a sheep ranch; he named his property "Dutton" after himself. By 1888, Dutton had developed three townships: East,West or Third Township; Athletic which included parts of what are now eastern portions of Reno; and Forest Hills which included most of what is now central Reno. In 1889, however, all but Athletic were annexed by City Of Reno when that incorporated area was created from unincorporated areas around Washoe County following countywide election in that year. Abandoned farms were converted into homes in the early years after World War II because there was little available land elsewhere in Nevada for housing refugees coming up during those years due to drought and war shortages throughout much of Northern California (and other places too). Many people who arrived here settled permanently - many enjoying their time here before moving on or returning home during later decades when new housing developments sprung up nearby due to large expansions in population growth across Northern Nevada during that time period (related to both oil production and development along Interstate 80).
