Citrus Heights is located on the eastern edge of Anaheim and it is bordered by Fullerton to the east, Garden Grove to the west, and Anaheim Hills to the north. It sits on a wide ridge that runs along Disneyland's original route from Anaheim Hills to Fullerton. The name "Citrus Heights" derives from two words: citrus and heights. The first word came about because of all of the oranges being grown here. The second word comes about because of how high the hills are here. Citrus Heights has been around since 1907 when it was established as an agricultural village called "Orangesville". In 1917, it changed its name to "Citrus Heights", after then-Governor Cushman Clark's request for a more appellative name for his new city. In 1929, American president Herbert Hoover donated land in what is now Citrus Heights for use as a parkland area known as Hoover Park; part of which still remains today (the other part was developed into Honda Park). In 1947, after years of vote campaigns by representatives from both cities and rural areas surrounding them, voters approved Measure A which provided for annexation by Anaheim of all unincorporated areas within city limits – including Citrus Heights – making it officially one city with a population over 100 residents! This occasioned mild controversy as many people living in rural areas felt left out until finally most of those annexed boundaries were filled in during subsequent years via Measure B (also voted on by citizens).
