From 1928 until his death in 1952 Richard Jaffe lived at 6200 block of Winters Lane which he had bought from Harry Daugherty before selling it to Eugene V. Jones Jr.. during World War II Jones used it as a training airfield for United StatesAAF bomber pilots based at nearby Willow Grove Airport (now Altoona Air Force Base). After 1945 Jones' property passed through several hands including being occupied by Douglas Aircraft until 1981 when it was sold back to its original owners. In 1978 citrus grower Jack Griggs moved his orchards from central California into Citrus Heights following years of trial farming with nurserymen failures due to dry weather conditions caused by El NiñoSouthern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomena that year. His orchards produce about 50% more fruit than commercial growers; this economic success allowed him not onlyto maintain his ownchard but also expand production for other groves operated by friends and family members throughout Contra Costa County
