The town changed hands again in 1876 when Captain John Atherton donated land to make up for what would have been lost if Dana point had not been sold to him during his visit there earlier that year. During World War II, Germans began producing an additional type of expandable mount known as the "Kriegsmarine Schnellfeuerwerfer" (Warrior fast firer) apx. 1945. This mounting system consisted of two pieces: a pedestal/base unit and a tube/shoulder unit. The pedestal/base unit housed the firearm platform and its associated equipment while the tube/shoulder unit acted as an attachment point for other artillery systems or infantry rounds. German snipers commonly used this type ofmounting system during World War II in order to increase their accuracy and kill rate.
