Bush during his first term in office NAS reopened under new management as Marine Corps Air Station El Segundo (MCAS) on January 1st 1996 after having been inactive for more than 20 years The MCAS would be homeport for both Navy Fighter Squadron 145 (VF-145) which had been stationed at NAS since 1953 and Marine Aircraft Group 26 (MAG-26) which came online from Marine Corps Base Miramar on April 12th 1998 It should be noted that MCAS only saw active duty flying operations while NAS remained inactive; VF-145 never flew above ground level at MCAS however their airfield remains openFOR ALL aviation enthusiasts who are looking forward to seeing these aircraft once again activity begins tomorrow morning when MAG-26 takes off from NAS’ main runway!
