A group of citizens armed with shotguns barricaded themselves inside the Millinery store, demanding their right to bear arms. After hours of fighting, Hennessey withdrew his forces without taking any casualties and allowed the people to return home with their weapons safely confiscated. It wasn't until after World War II that gun control laws began to relax in California following the enactment of the National Firearms Act (NFA). This act made it easier for individuals to purchase and possess firearms subject to certain regulations such as background checks and registration requirements. As part of this process, many historic buildings in downtown Fillmore were preserved for future generations to enjoy. One such building is The Old Millinery Store which is now used as a restaurant called Impossible Burger Grill & Brewery LLC.. Fillmore is a small town located in the San Joaquin Valley of California, east of Fresno. It was founded by Andrew fillmore in 1858 and named after Fillmore's rancho (farm). The first post office was established in Fillmore on October 15, 1858. The population of Fillmore peaked at 1,500 in 1906 but declined to about 350 over the next few decades. After World War II, the town slowly regained its former population until it had a total population of only 150 in 2000. The Fillmore Gold Rush began on December 26, 1848 when prospectors discovered gold near what is now Fillmore. By January 9, 1850, more than two hundred men were working the area and many claim claims including that of James Wolkowsky which would later become part of Yosemite National Park. In 1870–71, George Atherton laid out a townsite called "Atherton" to accommodate people who had rushed to prospect for gold near his rancho (farm). On February 16th 1870 Atherton sold all his claims except one to James Wolkowsky for $5 per claimant. Wolkowsky soon abandoned his claim because he could not produce enough gold ore to pay for it and sold it back to Atherton for $25 per claimants on March 4th 1870. Wolkowsky's shares were eventually acquired by Humboldt County as part of their grant from Congress to help settle agricultural land grants throughout California during the period between 1846-1868 inclusive. The original homesteaders built their homes around squareadobe posts or adobe walls with dug wells and cisterns beneath them as they struggled toward self-sufficiency while awaiting government assistance that never materialized despite numerous petitions filed with various officials including United States Senator John Fenton Ransom who represented California’s Central Coast region at Washington D.C.. Many residents took up farming following initial discovery since there was no available land elsewhere for settlement beyond what already lay within Humboldt County boundaries according to William Sibley’s 1912 report “Humboldt County Landowning Classes As They Affected Their Agricultural Facilities In 1911″ based onhis survey work done during 1910–1911 as part oftheCalifornia Divisionof Lands Survey . At some point after 1880 most residents either left or changed their names reflecting new arrivals such as Byrne or Gorman from Dublin Ireland arriving during the late 1850s followed by other Irish immigrants such as McNamara and Healy also early Italian immigrants Pompei and De Amicis arrived during this time frame like most other groups did not have much choice due mainly to lack of resources then also attitudes towards those coming from countries other than England/Ireland where opportunities seemed endless .Many natives became farmers through combination of natural resources (land) combined with hard work ; they did not get recognition untilafter WWI when laws were rewritten specifically targeting agriculture so native farms could be taken over

Fillmore was founded in 1849 by James Fillmore and W. H. Fillmore as a trading post on the San Joaquin River between Stockton and Sacramento. The post became a town in 1861, when it was moved from the river to its present location east of Sacramento. In 1872, the town was renamed Fillmore after Ulysses S. Grant, who had served as president of the United States at the time of its founding.
