The area now comprising Fullerton was first settled by Europeans in 1821 as part of Rancho Buena Vista, an orange orchards and cattle ranch owned by Captain John W. Knight. Fullerton became a town on March 6, 1881 when it was included within the newly formed Orange County. It grew rapidly due to its location at the intersection of two major north-south routes and its access to minerals such as oil and natural gas. The region's hot climate attracted many entrepreneurs, who built large homes and businesses around what would become known as "The Circle." By 1920, Fullerton had acquired sizable chunks of land east of Interstate 5 that were ideal for industrial growth. Buses arrived at nearby Newport Beach for fullers to buy eggs and tomatoes from local farmers; buses departed for Fullerton for residents to buy gasoline or help with construction projects. In 1933, general Motors Corporation established its research center adjacent to then-Plymouth Motor Speedway (now Huntington Beach Speedway). This provided important research opportunities for GM during World War II while also helpingfuller develop into one of Southern California's leading industries. In recent years, Fullerton has experienced some gentrification which has led to increased housing prices and a decreased diversity of families living there – although it remains home to some of southern Californias most affluent neighborhoods

The city was founded on May 20, 1879 by General John C. Fuller as a result of land sales made during wagon train travel through the area. It grew rapidly due to its location at an important crossingroads and its access to railroad tracks that allowed it to become a major manufacturing center. In 1914, Fullerton became one of three cities (the others being Pasadena and Huntington Beach) incorporated within Los Angeles County when then-Governor William H. Rehnquist merged Los Angeles County with Imperial Valley counties. The City of Fullerton has served as an important cultural and educational center for much of Southern California since its incorporation into Los Angeles County. It continued this role until 1994 when it was887 HHU Community College District No 2 which merged with nearby Claremont Colleges to form University of Southern California - Fullerton Campus (USC). Today, USC is one of several universities inSouthern California along with UCLA, Loyola Marymount University, and UC Irvine which make up the “Golden State” Consortium education system. Fullerton's history goes back over 160 years! On May 20th 1879 General John C Fuller sold 640 acres near present day Fullerton Boulevard & Pico Boulevard for $5 per acreo making it one of America's first suburban areas outside Boston or Detroit MI! After a few years full settlement there were only 8 families living here but soon word spread about this great place so rich in resources full stop! People started flowing in from all over looking for this amazing country spot because they saw it as their golden opportunity! So what did General Fuller do next? He built himself some beautiful homespun mills on his new property just north of town while also building a school that would serve future generations! This school was called "The Academy" after General Fuller himself who donated many shares in it too! By 1881 schooling had become available for all citizens so people could start Families & prosperfull lives here!! And thats how we got our name "Fullerton"! In 1902, it annexed neighboring Anaheim and formed the Anaheim-Fullerton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The City of Fullerton first used the name "Los Angeles" in 1912 when it merged with nearby Pasadena to form what is now Los Angeles County.
