It is located on the southeastern edge of Los Angeles County and about 12 miles (19 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. The first people to reside in Garden Grove were the Tongva people who came from Southern Mexico about 2,500 years ago. They built their homes on a bluff overlooking Lake Ontario and hunted deer and other game near by. In 1847, two brothers named George and Jonathan Dole bought land in what is now Garden Grove from the Tongva people for $1 per acre ($10 per kilo). The Dole brothers laid out streets and laid out gardens which remain today as part of the city's neighborhoods. In 1893, J.P. Morgan invested in various companies including Oil Fields Syndicate which became Orange County's largest employer with more than 60 employees; it remains so to this day. He also purchased 1/2 mile (0.8 km) of property between Maple Avenue and Topanga Boulevard south of Highland Park for $100 per acre ($1/$10 per kilo). This piece of land now forms much of Isla Vista Peninsula within the city limits while still remaining adjacent to Monterey Park proper outside city boundaries - making it one of Northern California's most rural communities until very recently! A post office was established at Garden Grove on October 16, 1892, by Leland Stanford Jr., son of Stanford University president Leland Stanford Sr.. At its peak in 1902 there were over 100 mail carriers serving Garden Grove with an average ride time of just over three hours! In 1912, Mr. & Mrs.(Mrs.) John Waddell opened a Nursery store next door to their home at 5251 West Pico Boulevard called The Waddells nursery store till 1911 when they moved into their current location across from IGA supermarket at 6221 North State Parkway known as "The Gables". Mrs.(Mrs.) John Waddell died suddenly on November 25th 1914 leaving her husband alone with 3 children aged 10-15yrs old - all he could manage was selling eggs & flowers! His plight becomes even more difficult when both parents' graves are unmarked... For many decades after Mrs.(Mrs.) John Waddell disappeared without leave or funeral notice some family members would go up to her house every night around 11pm to try& find clues as no body ever showed up inside! After 40+ years no one has been able to solve this mystery...until now!!!!!! Accordingly began efforts by early pioneers like Leland Stanford Jr., bankers such as J.P Morgan & others looking for new markets for exports; citrus growers looking for fresh fruit accessible from inland markets; farmers expanding farming techniques; real estate developers building singlefamily homes; students studying architecture or engineering working odd jobs during college winters etc.; eventually becoming known as Homebuilders Association Club (HBC) led by Mr.(Ms.) Harry Biddle following his purchase(?)of 17 acres north west corner Of Topanga Boulevard And Flower Street opposite IGA supermarket lot starting February 28th 1915 HBC had developed 8 properties totaling 22000 sq ft +/- 350 yd² each consisting mostly singlefamily dwellings thru Centennial Flats annexation process 1923-1929 (&?#%&*) original development plat included 4 blocks bounded Northeastern corner Of Topanga Boulevard By Flower Street North And Northeast Corner Of Topanga Boulevard And East Side Of Topanga Blvd.; http://maps3drdparty2aip1bx4f7cw94pvbuy5a@googlemail3a465ed9ce35ebbffe4ea665e@gmail3a that same year HBC applied For Tax exempt status From City Councils Regional Assembly District 7 Original Development plat did not include 4 blocks bounded Northeastern corner Of Topanga Boulevard By Flower Street North And Northeast Corner Of Topanga Boulevard And East Side Of Topanga Blvd.- On January 20th 1929 City Council granted Exemption based On lack thereofOf Commercial Use!!! This demonstrates that although initially conceived as purely residential developments primarily designed To provide Improved Environmental Quality & Functionality With A Minimum Possible Workforce Size City Hall saw fit To Allow Some Commercial Use In Area Which Until Then Was exclusively Residential!!! subsequent enlargements have occurred resulting presently In 3500 Sq Ft (+/-1500 yd²) Developments IncludingCommercial Offices!!

In 1834, John Sutter sold him 2,000 acres south of present day downtown Garden Grove on what is now State Route 26 and east of I-5 for $40 per acre ($ today). On July 4th, 1835, Hutton opened up what is now called "Hutton's Hill" with a picnic ground that seated 50 people and attracted 25 wagonloads of visitors each day for four days; it remains one of the largest outdoor gatherings in history! In 1865 Rancho San Antonio Mexican Land grantee James Irvine built Arrowsmith House (now Irvine Park), located at 5555 North Indian Canyon Boulevard #1010 which became Orange County seat in 1870 when portions were carved off from neighboring Riverside County. After years as a farming community with nearly 3000 residents near Arroyo Seco Creek within today’s City limits (and surrounding rural areas until Huntington Hills annexed them by Garden Grove), Garden Grove began rapid growth beginning about 1902 when developer Charles Eames purchased 1/3 interest in major league baseball team Anaheim Angels from Jesse Owens for $2 million dollars! That same year Eames also bought much needed water supplies from nearby Pasadena so that Anaheim could begin playing organized sports outdoors! By 1906 GGR had over 20 businesses including banks (the first being First National Bank--leased to George Wirtz) several hotels including The Starlite (later The Plaza Hotel), six restaurants/bars including Brown Derby Buffet & Luncheonette (#1 Chain restaurant chain nationally then)--a movie theater--a large shopping center complete with department stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney & Co., Macy's Department Store and Woolworth's Clothing Stores; two football teams: Southern Californian Americans (supported by businessmen Harry Chandler who later founded IBM) played their home games at Arrowsmith House before moving into newly constructed Memorial Stadium - now known as Honda Center - north side next to current City Hall Bridge across Arroyo Seco Creek just east of AutoZone Parkadden Avenue between Civic Center Drive and Birch Streetlight Road; numerous residences were built during this period such as Hope Estates subdivision northwest corner Arroyo Seco Creek Road and present day Airport Rd.; St Francis Xavier School https://goo.gl/maps/9xCvN4jNsjK Also one building still standing – conventual schoolhouse seen northeast corner Airport Rd./Visalia Ave where Sisters used to teach Chinese Children prior WW II https://www.google.com/?q=st+francis+xavier+school&oe=UTF-8&btnI

Garden Grove was founded on October 15, 1887 by three brothers who bought 160 acres of land south of Anaheim. The original name of the town was Indian Wells. It changed to Garden Grove in 1893 and again to Garden Grove in 1907. The town was incorporated on November 21, 1912. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and (1%) is water. As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 72,473 people living in Garden Grove City. The racial makeup of Garden Grove City was 36% White (45% non-Hispanic), 34% Black or African American, 1% Native American/Alaska Native, 25% Asian Pacific Islander, 10% from other races, and 5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 17%. In terms of ancestry: Italian (12%), Spanish (11%), German (10%), Portuguese (8%), Mexican (6%). There are no major neighborhoods within Garden Grove City like Sherman Oaks or Westwood Village; instead it has an open-air mall called "The Plaza" that spans across several blocks downtown."
