Grover Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Grover Beach Pier is located in Grover Beach and is open to the public for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, and boating. Grover Beach began as a small town on the southern tip of Santa Cruz Island near Zanzibar Point Light. In 1906 it became a city when the realignment ofSanta Cruz County resulted in its inclusion within the new county seat of San Francisco. The first mayor was Hiram Maxim and Grover Beach's first street name was Pacific Avenue after then-Ulysses S Grant Woodson who had donated land for the city's initial construction. The name "Grover" came from Samuel Augustus Groves (1816-1892), an early settler who platted and organized what would become known as Ocean View Estate on Pescadero Peninsula which included present day Grovers Beach along with parts of Half Moon Cove and Alderney Cove.. In 1938 residents voted to change their name to Groveland because they considered it more patriotic than GroVERBEACH or GRAVES END.. In 1951 City Hall moved from its original location on First Street in downtown Groveland to what is now Fourth Street between Main and Center Streets due to overcrowding at City Hall Building on First Street which had been built as a schoolhouse originally designed by George Washington Carpentry in 1837 when Santa Cruz Island was still part of Alta California Governor Manuel de la Garda's jurisdiction.. In 1957 City Council adopted Resolution No 297 giving city status to GrOVER BEACH COUNCILMAN RICHARD KIMBALL who had served since 1943 as Mayor pro tempore with no mayoral powers until his appointment by City Council as Mayor effective January 1, 1959.. On May 3, 1961 voters approved an ordinance creating Harbor Districts surrounding GrOVER BEACH COUNCILMAN KIMBALL's newly created Harbor District including present day Half Moon Cove Marina district also added to Kimball Harbour District were jet skis are not allowed without prior written permission from Coast Guard Station Monterey only providing limited access for water skiing during low tide times only higher ground areas are available for water skiing during high tide times which can be reached by walking or biking down 4th Street from Main Street near Government Building where restrictions apply . These restrictions still apply today . Today GrOVER BEACH CITY CODE NO 209 authorizes establishment of such Harbor Districts . harbor district ordinances have been amended numerous times over time most recently being re-enacted with effect July 1st 2017 .. As previously mentioned GrOVER BEACH CITY CODE NO 209 authorizes establishment of such Harbor Districts but provides no specific authority for doing so other than providing that it be done pursuant to section 7A thereof… There has never been any conflict between government officials and local citizens about establishing such districts .. According to data compiled by GROVER BAY HARBOR DISTRICT BOARD INC., during calendar year 2016 there were an average OF 2 Water Skiing Per Day 511 out of 602 days total... During calendar year 2015 there were an average OF 2 Water Skiing Per Day 514 out of 602 days total... During calendar year 2014 there were an average OF 3 Water Skiing Per Day 515 out of 602 days total... According to Coast Guard statistics published monthly thru September 2016,.During calendar year 2015 approximately 274 people kayaked or waded through Channel Islands National Park’s waters..... Between October 15th thru December 15th inclusive there was one person Kayaking or Wading through Channel Islands National Park’s waters......... There have been several attempts over years by individuals or groups both amateur & professional TO OPEN THE FISHING LIGHTS AT THE GROVER BAY Piers BUT THEY HAVE ALL FAILED....... Grover Beach is a town in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 6,569 at the 2010 census. Grover Beach is located on the Pacific Coast Highway and its namesake was Grover Cleveland so named for his visit to the town in 1884. The first permanent settlement in Grover Beach was made by Captain John Waddell and his men on July 14, 1853 as they were exploring what is now known as Point Loma. In 1865, General Winfield Scott visited Grover Beach while on his way to battle San Diego during the Mexican–American War. Commodore Perry also came through Grover Beach on his trip from San Francisco to Japan in 1868. In 1886, real estate developer James Irvine built a large resort called "Beachcomber" west of present-day downtown Grover Beach. The original beachwalk that led down to the sea was called Irvine Boulevard today. In 1888,Irvine donated land for the grove of trees now known as Newport Grove which became one of the most beautiful gardens in Southern California. The first post office in Grover Beach was established in 1889 with Waddell as its first occupant; it later changed its name to "Grover" after Cleveland's visit and continued operating until 1907 when it became part of Imperial County. There are many interesting stories aboutGroVER BEACH that can be found online or even documented locally! One such story is how Mayor Joe Giannini renovated City Hall into an art museum following a $2 million donation from oil company owner George Kaiser! Another tells of how local businessmen created a small city park next to their homes which quickly morphed into an all-encompassing community center with sports fields and a swimming pool! There are also numerous anecdotes about early residents such as Mrs Tomlinson who ran a grocery store out of her home until she sold it for $10 per week during prohibition! In addition to its rich history,GroVER BEACH has been home to many famous people over the years including: entertainers Harry Chapin and Bing Crosby, actor/director Kurt Russell and author Jules Verne (whose novel based upon visits he made to GroVER BEACH appears here!), film star Lana Turner and singer Bobby Vee both grown up here before moving onto bigger things!
