Kerman is a small town in Kern County, California, located in the Mojave Desert. The population of Kerman was 4,810 at the 2010 census. The name “Kerman” comes from an oasis-like location on the east side of San Bernardino Mountains that was known for its fruit trees and grapes. The first Europeans to visit this area were the Spanish explorers Juan Bautista de Anza and Vasco Nunez de Balboa. They named this area Los Angeles after their leader, Spain's king Don Pedro Calderon de la Hoz. In 1857, John C. Fremont discovered gold near what is now Kerman and offered it to investors for $1 per ounce (30¢ per pound). A group of Americans who had heard about Fremont's discovery decided to go prospecting for gold nearby and named their new town after him – Fremont City in honor of him. In 1859, a post office called Kearney was established in response to complaints from people living in Fremont City about being without mail service or goods they could sell. The name Kearney probably referred to one of these American Prospectors, Elisha Kearny (1802-1869), who had explored the region before John C. Fremont did. In 1862, surveyor James Waddell surveyed part of what is now Kern County; he named it Kerman after his friend and mentor George Arvizu (1787-1867), founder of modern day Kern County as well as several other places including Atascadero and Yuba City. In 1876, when Samuel Merrill built a rancho at present-day Borrego Springs on Government Canyon Road southeast of downtown Kerman, he also founded Merrill Rancho State Historic Park which offers visitors trails leading down into the canyon where he found silver mines in 1875 and 1886 totaling more than $5 million ($ today). Silvermining continued until 1912 when all mining stopped due to environmental problems such as water depletion caused by overuse of surface runoff frommining operations

The world's first successful use of a gun laser as part of an airborne warning and control system occurred on 25 May 1964 when USAF EC-135Cs flying over North Vietnam used their gunsights to guide bombers during Operation Rolling Thunder. At that time, this type of aircraft had not yet been replaced by satellites or other electronic countermeasures platforms like those today employed by NATO member states
