Kingsburg is a town in Kings County, California, United States. The population was 1,698 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden–Arcade Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kingsburg was founded on November 10, 1847 by John C. Frémont and his party as Fort Mouriere after they left Independence Rock on their way to found Gold Rushtown in what is now Fresno. The first post office was established in 1848 and the first store opened in 1850. The name derived from the Spanish word "californiano" meaning " Californian." The town was originally named for General José Joaquín de la Peña y Arroyo who led Mexican troops against American forces during the Mexican-American War and helped settle this area of California. La Peña also had a ranch here that served as inspiration for Kingsborough's original name choice. In 1870, when most of present day Kingsburg were acquired by Don Carlos Buell along with other towns located near Stockton, CA he named it after him and began developing the town into a cattle country resort destination with horse trails leading to it from both Sacramento and San Francisco. With its huge haystack (now an open-air museum) west of downtown Kingsburg and numerous vacation rentals available near all its attractions such as beaches, golf courses, etc., Kingsborough quickly became one of Northern California's most popular tourist destinations during the late 19th century until air travel arrived to take away much of its popularity beginning in the early 20th century; however many remnants of that era remain today including some beautiful old buildings still used as residences or weekends getaway spots for locals or visitors alike

Kingsburg was founded in 1885 by George W. Kingsbury, a gold miner who had come to California from Ohio. The town originally consisted of only a few hundred people and was named after King's Ranch on the Kern River. In 1886, Kingsbury married Lydia Holmquist and the community began to grow rapidly; by 1890 it had a population of 1,500. In 1903,Kingsbury sold his share in the town to Jens Christiansen for $10,000. Kingsburg remained an agricultural center until World War II when its economy shifted to manufacturing due to wartime demand for munitions and other military hardware. After the war ended, Kingsburg experienced rapid growth thanks to increased employment in nearby Yuba City and Placerville. However, unemployment rates continued to high throughout most of the 1990s as continuous economic restructuring caused several companies to leave or merge into others over time. By 2000, however, joblessness had decreased significantly and new businesses were starting up all over the city including stores such as Goodwill and SearsOUTLET which helped revive downtown shopping districts once again (although they are no longer primary focus). Today much of what made Kingsburg so unique has been lost within modern day technology-dependent society: its architecture has been replaced by malls with more identical buildings; most residents commute outside of their city limits instead of continuing down main streets; many businesses have closed down or relocated completely since 2000; while downtown still retains some remnant commercial activity it is no longer at peak popularity during major holidays like Christmas or Easter because many people now live outside of town altogether. Despite these limitations there are still some remnants that can be found around town such as preserved pioneer churches (St John's Episcopal Church & First Congregational Evangelical Lutheran Church) or historical significance associated with early kingsbury mining operations (the old Gold Rush mine complex located just east of downtown).
