Howells built his first house on what is now the corner of Floral Drive and Santa Cruz Avenue in La Verne. Howells' businesses included an inn, gunsmith shop, carriage factory, and post office. Howells also developed a successful hunting business that included purchasing land near Big Basin Lake for Preserves to provide refuge for deer during the winter months. The preserve was eventually established as Rancho San Rafael de la Laguna National Monument in 1932. In 1916, Drury Company began manufacturing scope mounts under their own brand name in LaVerne. The company continued to produce scope mounts through World War II until it closed its doors in 1945 due to wartime production quotas set by the United States military. The popularity of scoped hunting led to the development of other types of firearm mountings such as bipods and monopods over time; however, Scope Mounts remains one of the most popular riflemounted accessories worldwide today with millions sold annually across all brands and models.

The history of La Verne, California dates back to 1849 when Don Miguel De Cervantes and his brother Francisco de la Rúa founded the town on a small island in Lake Nicaragua. It was named after Captain John A. LaVerne, who explored the area in 1825. In 1850, following Mexican independence from Spain, Don Miguel renamed the town San José del Carmen after his father-in-law, José Herrera Cerón. The name change was short lived as San José became an independent republic in 1856 and changed its name to La Verne. In 1907, American entrepreneur Edward M. Smith bought land at what is now northwest corner of State Street and Franklin Avenue for $1 million (the equivalent of $106 million today). He began developing the property into a large new city with dozens of homes and businesses. At first called El Monte City Hall, the building served as both headquarters for city government and as the social center for many of La Verne's early residents. In 1915 it was replaced by City Hall Annex which still stands today at NW corner State Street and Roosevelt Avenue (now known as Western Ave.). The original El Monte Adobe built in 1851 remains one of LaVerne’s most iconic landmarks; it is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places . The Adobe has been relocated multiple times but is still standing on its current site at 1115 North Lincoln Boulevard . The building originally housed a adobe jail that was destroyed by fire in 1864 but has since been restored to its original condition . LaVerne developed rapidly during World War II due to its strategic location between Los Angeles and San DiegoBay – perfect for housing troops stationed nearby – although much development occurred outside of city limits due to wartime restrictions on civilian growth."

These arms were connected via a hinge mechanism that allowed them to be rotated about their axes so that they could be positioned at various angles across the bore of the gun for optimal sighting results. The history of La Verne, California dates back to the early 1800s. The first Europeans to visit this location were the Spanish in 1821, and they named it San Miguel de la Verne after a mountain in Mexico. In 1828, Mexican President Manuel Micheltorena granted Rancho La Brea to James H. Kapp who built a ranch there that became one of the largest in California. The area now known as La Verne was part of what was known as Rancho Los Cuatro Caminos. On July 16, 1835, George Armstrong Custer and his 1,500 cavalry troopers attacked the Mexican army at Cerro Gordo during the Battle of Buena Vista Hill and achieving victory over Chief Tecumseh's forces. This event is also recognized byCalifornia as its official beginning of the Anglo-American War (1846-48). From here on out, ranching would be a major industry in La Verne. In 1859, John Sutter arrived in California with his group of gold miners and founded Sutter's Fort at present day fruitvale along Redwood Creek. He and his men had excellent water supplies and were able to develop an extensive agriculture operation there for years before finally striking it rich finding gold near Sutter's Fort in 1865. This led to large population growth for both rural areas near Sacramento County east of Redwood Creek such as La Crescenta and Friant; however it also caused serious overcrowding on many small farms leading to social unrest which was then exploited by richer farmers looking for new land to settle on without much concern for those living close by or any regard for their rights or welfare. During World War II when America needed more soldiers than ever before she created millions more jobs through her public works programs like housing production which contributed significantly towards ending race relations nationally within American society while providing invaluable resources like irrigation systems vital for farming across vast regions across Southern California including parts of Kern County today where most people are descended from original Mission Chinese immigrants brought over during that period It is said that General Douglas MacArthur called him "the greatest soldier since Genghis Khan" after returning from combat in Asia General MacArthur addressed all Americans traveling through Northern California telling them about Japanese war propaganda broadcasts planning attacks against us: "This is your chance see how great Japan is - watch these broadcasts! On February 14, 1847, La Verne was founded by Father Francisco Xavier Serrano and his wife María del Carmen de la Cruz. The city grew rapidly in the early 1800s due to its location on a salt water creek that facilitated trade with the Mexican port of Tijuana. In 1906, La Verne became part of the newly created State of California. As a result, much of its history comes from California's role as an ongoing member of both states.
