Livermore is a city in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 26,828 at the 2010 census. Livermore is located on the eastern edge of the Silicon Valley region and its eastern border is Fremont. The Livermore River forms its southern border. The first permanent settlements in present-day Livermore were made by Anglo-Americans in 1851 during Wootton's War against Native Americans. In 1853, Jameson Coolidge founded a small town called Livermore Falls which became the nucleus of what would become Livermore. By 1860, there were over 100 residents living in Livermore Falls and surrounding area. A post office was established at Livermore in 1861 and remained open until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1863, an act of Congress named the Stanford Grant subdivision after John Sutter, one of the founders of San Francisco Bay Area included what are now east Oakland and south Fremont as well as part of Livermeree within its boundaries. In 1865 incorporation proceedings were filed with Alameda County for what would become livermeree; however due to lack of a town hall building or other physical evidence thereof, no action was taken until 1876 when Millsaps Township (now Hayward) annexing part of Alameda County did so instead In 1886 local prospector Prentice Murchison discovered gold near where today’s Livermeree Boulevard lies; this led to increased activity around that location and helped spur development around present day downtown including much of the defunct Millsaps Township area Gold production continued through World War II but stopped after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 – immediately prior to US entry into war Today’s Downtown began developing rapidly following WWII as both military moved out & businesses took off); prior to that it consisted largely of residential compounds/homes built for servicemen/their families
