Morgan Hill is a census-designated place in Contra Costa County, California. The population was 8,912 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. Morgan Hill was named for General John Morgan, an American Revolutionary War hero and brigadier general who fought at Saratoga and Yorktown. The town was established in 1887 by J. P. Morgan and other investors as a new site for his cattle ranch outside of Stockton. The name "Morgan Hill" came from General John Morgan's home in nearby Redding, which had been renamed "Barton Springs" after its developer, James Barton. The first post office opened in 1888 and the first store opened in 1889. By 1893, there were 11 stores and 1 bank in town with a population of about 125 people. In 1907, General James Tilton bought the Rancho Seco from J.P.'s son John P.) Tilton moved his family to Morgan Hill from their original home near Redding where they had lived since 1881 (the house still stands). He built up what became one of Northern California's most successful citrus farms with orchards that produce oranges, apples, grapefruit, tangerines and other fruits; he also developed a small wind turbine farm to power his turbines during cold days when energy costs were high elsewhere around the state! In 1916 he donated land adjacent to his orchards for university research purposes – UC Berkeley now occupies that part of the property! Following World War II many residents left for various reasons including jobs opportunities in Silicon Valley or East Bay counties; however some returned over time such as Dr., Robert Heston who purchased land east of town shortly before his death in 1984; popular author Beverly Cleary who resided here until her death in 2001; actor/director Clint Eastwood whose father owned land just west of town near Highway 680 until it sold to developers in 2006;and Mayor Willie Brown who served two terms beginning in 1978 before running for Governor 4 years later.. Today there are only a few hundred people living within sight of downtown Morgan Hill while 2 large shopping centers have replaced much older commercial buildings dating back to 1918 when Sears went out of business due to changing demographics inside Greater San Francisco: one along Yerba Buena Blvd./Mission Street between Santana Row and Haight Ashbury - known today as One Market Place (an upscale mall) - opposite UCSF [University Clinics];[and] another across Vallejo Boulevard/Hwy 101 from Kaiser Permanente Hospital: both anchored by Macy's Department Store - both now closed but formerly occupied by several buildings housing several rent-a-crowd restaurants etcetera on upper floors above ground level! Retail vacancy rates are highest near Interstate 80 with less than 10% vacancy anywhere except DowntownSAN FRANCISCO’S LARGEST & MOST POPULAR SOURCE OF RENTABLE REAL ESTATE]. A few light industrial businesses remain scattered throughout central city areas away from I-80 although oil production has substantially diminished since 2000 having ended almost all local oil wells.. Accordingly "Morgan Hill" is not simply an agricultural community like those found throughout much Southern California prior to World War II but rather reflects significant changeover over time characterizing this area quite specifically as being `new` compared with similar regions experiencing more gradual transformation characterized as `old`. This `newness`, if any existed at all upon establishment thereof appeared primarily through resultant increased affluence evident thru increased real estate values resulting largely thru annexation by neighboring cities (& suburbs) following incorporation into larger metropolises (& towns), suburbanization ensuing via freeway construction leading increasingly towards urban growth patterns typical throughout North America during this period notwithstanding quite significant joblessness & poverty among recent arrivals indicative plainly ol' postwar rural flight!"

Morgan Hill is a small town in San Mateo County, California. It was founded in 1887 by brothers Abram and George Morgan. The original name of the community was "Hillsborough". The first post office in Morgan Hill was established in 1887, and served as the seat of San Mateo County for two years until 1889 when it moved to Maynardville. In 1912, the county seat passed from Maynardville to Morgan Hill after the discovery of oil reserves near that location. Oil production began in 1923 and continued until 1976 when gasoline prices rose so high that production ceased entirely. During World War II, Morgan Hill played an important role as aAAF airfield Auxiliary Base during the Battle of Midway; More than 1,100 aircraft were based there including fighter/bomber types such as P-51 Mustangs and P-38 Lightnings. Alpha Company (1st Battalion), 101st Airborne Division arrived at Morgan Hill on July 10th 1944 with orders to fight their way across Japan through Nagasaki and into mainland China before reaching Kunming (then Changsha) ahead of American forces fighting against Japanese forces There they would rendezvous with other airborne divisions landing just south of Tokyo Bay while supplies and reinforcements arrived en route from India via truck under Operation Dragoon which aimed to sever communications between Japan's capital city Osaka and its much larger home province Kyoto. After World War II ended, many businesses closed down due to inflationary rates or changes in government regulations which made it difficult to keep up with inflationary trends elsewhere in California However some businesses did survive such as Giannini's Italian Bakery which still operates today pushing past Prohibition norms by selling wine by the bottle instead of cans or boxes etc.. Another local business that has continued operations is Golden Earringswhich opened its doors back in 1907 before prohibition had even come into effect!
