Morgan and others as an agricultural village on a small tract of land east of what is now downtown Oakland. The name came from an oak tree that stood near the original site. The first post office opened in 1882; it was closed in 1954 because of competition from larger towns in Contra Costa County such as Danville and Hercules. In 1906, Oakley became part of the Town of Antioch which included parts of Richmond and Walnut Creek. The town merged with Oakland in 1958 to form the current city boundaries which include most of what used to be Antioch Township with some exceptions including a strip along Interstate 880 that still falls within Contra Costa County jurisdiction

Oakley is a small town in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2000 census. The name "Oakley" originated from an early settler's family name of Oakley. In 1868, the first post office in this community was established under the name of Post Office Creek. On July 5, 1871, the present day Oakley post office opened under the name of Rancho Cucamonga. In 1893, Donato Pacheco built what is now known as Villa Park on his ranch east of village and named it after his father-in-law and neighbor John Hutton (1847-1924). From 1904 to 1912 Gonzalo Castro ran a grocery store and bakery near today's Village Center before moving to his current location on Main Street in 1915. Today Oakley is a bedroom community with many businesses based within its limits including two medical centers - one operated by Kaiser Permanente (the largest health insurer in Northern California) and one by Pacific Medical Center - both located just outside its gates; five high schools which serve area students; four churches: First Baptist Church annexed into nearby San Bernardino Valley Catholic Church in 1984; two restaurants and one bar - all closed during recent years because of economic conditions; two golf courses: one operated by Loma Prieta Golf Club; three lakes: Lakeside Park across from school on municipal land east of village center ; several smaller villages also located within easy reach including Sunrise Valley to the south, Willow Glen to the north and Desert Hills to the west all within minutes' drive or less. The settlement began as a stage stop onStagecoach Road between Bakersfield and Coalinga where travelers could board wagons for points beyond those towns. By 1863 there were nine families living here with fifty head of livestock. By 1870 there were twenty-six households with over 250 heads of livestock plus another thirty residents who farmed ranches or leased land for grazing purposes totaling 1,500 head Of hay, 400 acres soybeans etc... A post office was established at Rancho Cucamonga on July 5th 1871 with Rufus Ives as your mail carrier delivering letters between Bakersfield & Coalinga daily.. At that time only men could write their names so Mrs Ives had to scourge her husband who would then type them out for her! In 1893 Donato Pacheco bought Villa Park from John Hutton which became known as home base for most local residents associated with farming or ranching until recently when they have moved awaymostly due to difficult economic times brought about by global recession
On February 14, 1894, a group of men from Oakley, California went on a robbery spree that left three people dead and five others injured. The men were suffering from amnesia and had not realized what they were doing. The robberies began on December 17, 1893 when two robbers invaded the home of John H. Reilly with intent to rob him. Reilly defended himself by shooting one of the robbers in the face before fleeing the scene. The other robber took refuge behind Reilly's car and was shot and killed by Reilly's family dog as he emerged from cover. On January 15, 1894, four gunmen entered the home of Emmett J. Wickersham with intent to rob him at knifepoint. Wickersham fought back and shot one of the gunmen in the head before escaping into his home with his wife and children inside. The gunman returned fire but missed Wickersham entirely as he ran outside to pick up his gun; he instead wounded his wife and child before fled the scene alive. One month later, on February 14th, another group of assailants robbed three separate homes in Oakley including that of George Fenton who was hosting a party for friends at his home when one assailant entered through an open window wielding a knife while others fired shotguns into the air in celebration! Fenton narrowly escaped death when one assailant collapsed after being shot multiple times while running away; however all six attackers survived this rampage unharmed thanks to their excellent marksmanship skills!
