They named the area "Rocklin" after a place in England where some of their ancestors had come before. The first people to live in this area were the Mono and Shasta tribes. In 1851, Rocklin was platted and named as one of fifty townships in Nevada County, California. The first post office was established at Rocklin on April 12, 1853. The town developed rapidly due to its location and its easy access to water supplies. By 1865, Rocklin had a population of over 400 residents. In 1868, an Act of Congress granted public lands east of Sacramento River to California forclamation purposes. This land included much of present-day Rocklin County and parts of Placer County and Fresno County. The act also allowed for the building of railroads through these areas. On December 3rd, 1869, President Ulysses S Grant issued Executive Order No. 10884 which created the University of California at Berkeley based on royal grant from King George IV.. UC Berkeley became state-owned property in 1912 when it was merged into UC Riverside
