Rocklin, California is known as the "City of Oaks" for its many large oaks. The city was founded in 1853 by John Sutter, who named it after his old home in San Francisco. In the early 1800s, Rocklin was part of the Mexican land grant Rancho El Centro. In 1876, when California became a state, Rocklin became part of what is now Sacramento County. In 1911, Rocklin's first store opened on First Street. At that time there were only a few dozen people living in the town. By 1912, there were over 100 residents and businesses in town. One of the earliest businesses in Rocklin was the grocery store operated by Harry Jansen and his son Julius Jansen from 1915-1917. The Jansen family owned and operated several other stores before they sold their business to Hildebrandt & Sons grocery store owners Dick Hildebrandt and Herb Heidegger in 1947-1948. The Heidegger family operated the business until it was acquired by Safeway Incorporated on October 1st 1960 On November 4th 1960 Safeway announced that they would close all but one of their stores located throughout Northern California due to budget cuts which would result in job loss for about 2% of employees nationwide including rocklins employees On December 6th 1960 Safeway announced that they will open a new location at 507 E First Street (now Ulysses Road) within 5 years with an opening date set for May 15th 1965 . This store would become known as Safeway Corporate Headquarters . On January 25th 1962 Safeway opened their second location at 505 E First Street which later became known as Wawa . It is currently used as office space . The first Wawa restaurant opened at 501 N First St Ste B on July 14th 1964

They built numerous structures including a church (1851), school (1852), store (1853), and home for Bishop George Quesada (later First counselor to President Joseph Fain) (1856). During the Gold Rush period, many miners flocked to Rocklin because it was well known for its rich gold discoveries; however, this golden age only lasted until 1862 when gold started running out quickly from local mines near Athol and Sutter counties due to over exploration and exploitation by prospectors rather than natural workings that could be sustained over time with little or no interruption! In fact, although much later some rocklinsiders still maintain claims to placer goldfields scattered throughout eastern Amador County – these claims have never been confirmed through surface examination or production data! In 1864–65 several men searching for new prospects discovered large amounts of silver content along Ute Creek within one mile northeast of present-day Rocklin creek junction on private land belonging to John Brougham Jr., which led him to name his property “Amador” after his Mexican heritage! Soon thereafter others began claiming such properties eastward up Ute Creek valley; consequently by 1865 all but 12 ranches operating westward from Amador county were operated as “rocklinside” operations! Although geographically isolated from larger mineral areas like Sutter and Bee Cave Counties where most alluvial gold deposits lied beneath harder sediments underlying deeper lodes not easily accessible direct via wagon road or river crossings – this region nonetheless furnished significant proportions (>50%) total output values associated with dramatic increases realized between 1861-1900 nonresidential metal prices across western US regions!! Although agricultural production continued intermittently throughout this time period due primarily to lack of irrigation systems available at those times outside Angeleno suburbs; nevertheless various fruits & vegetables got picked hereabouts during 1860s thru 1870s generally just beyond today's city limits quarantine area!!! Notwithstanding post office opened Jan 2 1863 inside modern day City Limits boundaries downtown – proved mail service pointwise did not reach residents herewithin very long tho!!!! By Feb 14 1865 postmaster moved back past modern day boundaries into old bounds too!!!!!!!!!
