San Rafael is a small town in southern California, about 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. It was founded in 1875 by John C. Fremont and named for him. The first store in San Rafael opened on Main Street in 1877. By 1886, the population had grown to include over 100 people and there were six businesses. In 1907, the city fathers decided that San Rafael should become an incorporated municipality and they set up a Board of Education with twelve members. The first school superintendent was Mrs. Lillie Mabel Bemis (1893-1976). A new public library was built in 1916 and the old library became the hospital until it closed in 1978. The early flashlight manufacturers included Humboldt Electric Light Company, General Electric, Westinghouse, Colt's Manufacturing Company, Jardine & Ballantine Corporation and Wesson Firearms company factories located outside of San Francisco Bay Area; Edison Electric Illuminating Company finished construction of its first substation at 11th Avenue and Broadway near downtown Fresno on October 15th 1918; Alameda County began offering power to cities through their municipally owned electric companies on November 1st 1922; Northern Pacific Railroad electrified its lines eastward from Oakland into Los Angeles County on December 13th 1926; Western Electric completed its line north from Industry to Burbank on January 6th 1928; Koberlein Radio Corp., Inc., established a commercial radio service throughout Southern California during 1927-1928 under the name "Koberlein Radio Corporation"; Sennheiser started production of audio lenses at their Karlsruhe plant beginning 1941; RCA Victor entered into common ownership with CBS Corporation when they acquired American Broadcasting System (ABC) through a merger on April 14th 1951 completing what would become known as Radiola Records empire including Paramount Pictures studios which were also involved with television production activities such as "Your Show of Shows" In 1957 Walther announced plans for worldwide sales including operation of plants within United States although this never came to fruition as Walther merged with Armscor plc.; Sennheiser developed model 318 society headlamps becoming popular amongst police forces during 1960s/1970s During the late1950s-early1960s Brownells produced flashlights using plastic body style Referred to as "Bunny ear" style flashlights By 1964 producer Fred Beamer released his own line called "Beamer's All American Flashlight". This led to increased demand for these types of lights among law enforcement agencies In 1968 Winchester introduced model 217C Police Carbine type flashlight which became very popular among law enforcement agencies around world due to its efficient design In 1969 TASCOM Introduced Model 601C weapon light designed specifically for use by law enforcement officers

San Rafael is a small town in Marin County, California. The population was 5,391 at the 2010 census. It is located on the San Francisco Peninsula and has the ZIP code 94109. The name "San Rafael" comes from Spanish and means "place of refuge." The first Europeans to visit San Rafael were Hernando de Soto and his troops in 1542. In 1821, General Alvarado arrived with 7,000 Mexican soldiers to replace Santa Anna as president of Mexico. He founded what is now known as Islais Street and named it after himself - San Felipe de Neveredo. In 1846, Don Miguel Estrada sent American soldiers to quell a pro- Californio uprising near Petaluma. On July 4th of that year, American forces burned down theadobe house of José María Herrera y Vargas in which many people had gathered for celebration (the event still commemorates by erecting a plaque at the property). The town's namesake may have been inspired by this event or another instance where Americans destroyed Native American villages during their Yurok Indian War campaigns in that area. In 1851, when voters in Marin County approved Measure M (a landowning initiative), San Rafael became part of Marin County instead of Contra Costa County because there was no other municipality large enough to encompass both counties without taking away land from others. At that time, most people lived on either side of Islais Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue; today only a few streets remain within the old city limits while much of downtown has grown up around it since then including several new high-rise buildings constructed over an open space formerly occupied by an old cotton millrace called Millrace Point Park & Recreation Area.). Eventually other businesses got involved such as Lighthouse Grill opened up along current Pershing Road back then serving mostly stoplightChinese immigrants until 1977 when they closed down after court order prohibited Chinese business owners inside any Uptown business district stretching all the way down Pacific Heights corridor past City Hall thenceforth becoming one long Sprague Street strip mall complete with dozens if not hundreds more low-end restaurants/cafes/bars than ever before housing senior citizens homebound care facility healthcare services etc...making our once thriving Business District infamous now simply SE corner Third Ave & Pershing Road though still listed on Google Maps

The first permanent European settlement in San Rafael was made in 1777 by the Mission San Francisco de Asís. In 1821, the town was incorporated as part of Monterey County. The city's growth began with its incorporation as a city in 1868, and it became one of California's most populous cities. San Rafael has been known for its flora and fauna, including many types of plants and animals.
