On December 8th1837 AD José Crespo granted land east of present day Civic Center Street (now US 101) to Carlos Nieto to be used as an agricultural farm named Rancho Lunático grant number 6258. In 1870AD the Sacramento River flood destroyed most homes in town but many others were rebuilt including ones now located on Main Street between First and Second Streets just west of Trusty Plaza also known as Old Town Santa Ana or Western Town because it was part of Rancho Aguaje which extended all along today's main thoroughfare between 2nd St./US 101 & 3rd St./Civic Center Blvd., bounded by 4th Ave./Exposition Park south/west, 5th Ave./US 101 north/east and El Camino Real east/west (Lincoln Avenue). Santa Ana is a city in Orange County, California. The population was 137,591 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Orange County and the Greater Los Angeles Area. Santa Ana's nickname of "The City of Roses" is based on its location near Anaheim Hills, where many rose bushes are grown. The first European explorers to visit what is now Orange County were Spanish missionaries who traveled through present-day Santa Ana in 1769 and 1770. They named it Cerritos because of the many brushy hills around which they discovered extensive oak trees. In 1824, Captain John Copley became headman of Rancho Santa Anita de la Antigua del Norte (later known as Rancho Santa Anita), east of what is now downtown Santa Ana. At that time there were no cities or towns in Orange County, only missions and ranchos scattered throughout the area. On December 25, 1825, with decision by Mexico’s President Manuel Micheltorena to annex California into their new country while still under Mexican rule, Captain Copley donated 50 square miles (130 km2) of land south of Anaheim to America for an American town called San Pedro (present-day Pasadena). However, without a name for the town – until 1857 when San Pedro was renamed after Colonel Don José de Urquiza y Costilla – people did not know what to do with themselves and their belongings during Christmas week 1850–1851. So several men gathered around a fire at Mission Dolores Adobe on January 6th [1851] decided to call their new settlement "San Pedro". A post office was established at San Pedro on February 14th [1851], and mail arrived from various parts of California daily until May 7th [1852]. By then a few houses had been erected but little else had been done due to lack of money or manpower; however local citizens put up makeshift barriers against Chinese immigrants trying to enter US on false documentation! After months of fence building progress stopped due mainly to lack funds but also because some residents began marrying Chinese women instead; finally Customs inspectors managed entry ontoshore during Yule season 1850–1901 just prior to christmas week[1]. A year later another post office opened at Point Loma about 15 miles north west of Downtown San Pedro(now part Of Huntington Beach) after construction started on October 1st 1860 by stagecoach drivers stranded en route between Lompoc and Monterey Bay aboard Humboldt’s Bay Boat Companyowned by George Hearn & Co….Hearn left his instructions with mechanics leader William Woodward “to erect Postoffice & wayside stores equal in size To those now existing In Los Angeles…..If possible he wanted them All Aligned North East And West Which I accordingly did….Lomboc Woodworking Co supplied all lumber needed”[2]. Today there are three extant buildings from this era: One located at 501 E St., one located at 4335 S Main Street Suite 202 inside Walmart Supercenter off Costa Mesa Blvd., and one currently used as offices by PG&E called Building G which overlooks Harbor Boulevard opposite Staples Center shopping center….the last two were built contemporaneously with Point Loma… Two other early settlements nearby include Irvine (site now part Of Burbank) founded 1850 AD by Nathaniel Hawthorne & James Irvine;and Signal Hill founded 1865 AD by Robert Owen
