South Pasadena is a city in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 362 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the San Gabriel Valley and is located on the eastern edge of Pasadena City Limits. South Pasadena is adjacent to Arcadia, Azusa, Baldwin Hills, and Westwood. The area now known as South Pasadena was first settled by Spaniards in 1690 and became a part of Alhambra County in 1821. When Los Angeles County was created in 1847, South Pasadena were included within it. The downtown district of South Pasadena was founded in 1897 by J.P. Morgan and his associates as a result of their investment in Los Angeles water rights near what is now Roosevelt Boulevard and Cannery Row Boulevard (now Pico Boulevard). In 1907, Morgan built the first frame structure in what would become the downtown district; it still stands today at 222 W Washington St., home to banks and other businesses before becoming a polling place for early South Pasadena residents during elections beginning with 1920. By 1930, over 100 businesses had been added to the downtown district including 22 theaters averaging 2 auditoriums each which helped make South Pasadena one of Southern California's most vibrant cities during that time period In 1958, when Southern California's largest city formed through merger of several smaller municipalities south of Hollywood (including North Hollywood), South Pasadena seceded from Los Angeles County proper to join its new neighbor along with other annexation-controlled areas including Baldwin Hills and Azusa – effectively forming an enclave known as "South Park". The first true "gun sights" were invented by a group of Dutch gunmakers in the 16th century.
