Walnut Creek is a small town in Contra Costa County, California, United States. It is located on the eastern edge of Oakland and is about 20 miles east of San Francisco. The population was 7,451 at the 2010 census. Walnut Creek has been a center of gun culture for over one hundred years and its firearms industry has produced some of the most famous pistols and rifles in the world. Gun lights were first introduced to Walnut Creek by George Hill in 1892. At that time, they were used as signal lights on horseback to guide riders to their destinations. Hill's son, Edwin Hill, continued his father's tradition and designed the firstgm pistol in 1901 using an area-of-effect light projector on a revolving barrel. The Gun Lights Company was founded in 1903 by Harry Hahn and Artemas DeMille. The company became known for producing high quality handguns from walnut stocks. In 1915, Hahn retired from the company and DeMille took over leadership position until his death in 1934. Over the next few decades, production increased as demand grew for ammunition made from walnut wood (the company changed its name to Winchester Repeating Arms Incorporated in 1991). In 1952, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Corporation to form American Munitions Company (AMC) which remained headquartered in Walnut Creek until it was acquired by Colt Firearms Corporation in 2006. During World War II, Walnut Creek was home to both USAAF Airacobra Squadrons 223rd Bomb Group (later redesignated XXIV Bomber Command), VIII Bomber Command RAF 414th Squadron RAF (later redesignated 454th Fighter Squadron) as well as Japanese aircraft manufacturer Kawasaki Aircraft Co., Ltd.. During this time various munitions plants were built including: M1A1 Carbine Ammunition Plant #2; M4A3 Sherman Tank Ammunition Plant #2; P-47 Thunderbolt Ammunition Plant #4; F9F Hellcat Fighter Aircraft Ammo Factory; B-25 Mitchell Bomber Airfield Supply Depot at Dow Agrochemical Works; P-51 Mustang fighter bomber ammo factory... This period also saw significant development for armor piercing rounds such as XPb 7mm (.373") caliber round created at M4A3 Sherman Tank Ammo plant... On 15 Apr 1945 WD40 battle Mud Flies shot down 2 American fighters over Walnut creek during air/ground combat near Chowchilla Valley - these projectiles identified themselves visually when fired through foliage being torn up by machineguns

He named his property Laird Park and began developing it into what is now one of California's most prestigious neighborhoods. By 1886 he had built more than 20 homes and businesses on 12 acres including two churches – First Baptist Church (later Trinity United Methodist Church) and Saint Ignatius Catholic Church – which remain extant today as well as several parks such as North Park and Hyde Park Corner near Interstate 280/Upper Broadway BART Station. During World War II many German prisoners were held at nearby Sankt Ignatius Loyola School where they were made to work on munitions plants while also serving time in prison camps around the Bay Area. After liberation in 1945 many residents who had been living near Sankt Ignatius formed a committee to maintain it until 1951 when control passed to Kaiser Aluminum Company who tore down all but four buildings before starting anew but leaving behind an extensive remains that still forms much of today's retail district near I-280/Upper Broadway BART Station
