Canon City, Colorado is a small city in the Rocky Mountains of Western Colorado. The population was 9,492 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Canon City-Weldwood-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Canon City begins with two men, George and John Haskell, who bought 640 acres (246 hectares) of land near what is now Canon City in 1875. The Hashepsis were a European family that had settled in Kansas Territory in 1854. They moved to Canon City in 1870 after purchasing 640 acres from Major James Mapes for $2 per acre. The Haskell brothers built a log cabin on their land and named it " Haskell". In 1881, they erected a wooden frame building which still stands today as the Administration Building for the Town of Canon City Municipal Services District #1. In 1907, Harry Potter opened his first hotel in Canon City and started to grow the town's economy by providing services such as laundry and restaurant work for local businesses. By 1919, Potter had developed six blocks south of downtown and became one of the largest employers in town with over 1,000 employees including many women who worked at his textile mills throughout central Colorado. After Harry Potter's death in 1928, his son Maurice took over operations until 1967 when he sold assets to Ellerbe Companies Incorporated which became known asprominent real estate developer Harry Ellerbe & Co.,Incorporated (HEC). From its early days HEC played an important role within local government by donating land to be used as schools or other civic institutions; also serving as treasurer during various municipal acquisitions/revisions which led to growth within our community during both good and bad times - always being business minded! One continued legacy left by HEC is their support for American Indian education through numerous donations totaling more than $100,000 dating back to 1957 when HEC offered land near Keystone Reservoir for use as an Indian boarding school; later this same year HEC contributed money towards construction of Intermountain Regional Airport located just east of town - making Canon City one step closer becoming an international airport! Heec passed away on December 5th 2002 after having been incapacitated since October 2001 due to congestive heart failure caused from years spent living primarily indoors due to several health problems including ALS dementia . Although most everyone has lost touch with him over time we all appreciate all he did for us .....RIP Mr Ellerbe
The history of magazines is a long and complex one that began with the Greeks. The first recorded references to magazines appeared in Homer’s Odyssey, where it is mentioned that the people of Ithaca keep “a many-lined bag full of arrows,” as well as spears and other weaponry. In medieval Europe, magazine pouches were also common equipment for infantry soldiers. In 1868, Scottishman John Brown started manufacturing firearms in his home town of Duncansburgh. That same year, he patented an invention that would change the course of gun history- the gas cartridge. With this new type of cartridge, guns could be fired more reliably and quickly than before. Brown’s invention would revolutionize ammunition design by allowing guns to fire more rounds per minute. This gave artillery units a much needed edge in battle against enemy forces. Furthermore, Brown’s technology helped make shotguns popular among civilians; now anyone could own a firearm capable of firing shells! Throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, magazines continued to play an important role in gun culture. Magazine publishers such as Colt Firearms Manufacturing Company produced vast amounts of ammunition for both military and sporting purposes. Ammunition was also used extensively during World War II to fight off Nazi aggression across Europe

Canon City is a small town in southern Colorado. The population was 1,128 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Canon City-Parker metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Canon City was Wm. H. Giles, who arrived on July 4, 1868. He built a log cabin near what is now the town square and named it "Giles' Cabin." Giles became one of the early directors of the Parkersburg Railroad and helped to found Parker County (now Park County) in 1861. In 1872, he sold his land to John A. Macdonald for $8 per acre (equivalent to $). In 1875, Canon City was incorporated as a village by an act of the Colorado General Assembly; it had been organized as a townsite since 1862 but had not carried out its full ceremonies until that year. The village site lay northwest of present day Canon City on State Highway 191, about midway between Pueblo and Westminster (later Denver). Canon City experienced significant growth during World War I due to its proximity to Fort Lyon and its military installation at Camp Douglas; however, most wartime development occurred outside of town limits. After the war ended, much new housing was built within town limits and commercial establishments began expanding into what are today downtown Canon City and eastward along State Highway 191 into rural areas beyond the city limits. During this period there also were several important civic events which took place in or around CanonCity including: enactment of Amendment II to the Colorado Constitution giving residents voting rights; passage of an ordinance establishing park boundaries within city limits; erection of local government structures such as streetlights and fire hydrants; establishment of police departments; inauguration of Mayor Harry Cavanaugh as first African American mayor in Colorado; dedication by President Franklin D Roosevelt of National Memorial Day Garden located adjacent to Municipal Airport just outside center city limits.; formal incorporation by proclamation from Governor Mead Callahan with effect from December 15th following ratification by all fifty states..
Canon City, Colorado was founded in 1876 by Scottish immigrants. The city became a mining town after the discovery of gold in 1859. The city's first post office opened in 1862. Canon City was named for Canon John Fenton, an Englishman who settled in the area in 1861.
