Englewood is a small town in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver–Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Englewood residents were attracted to the natural resources and land in the area by 1859. The same year, John Englewood founded an agricultural colony on his farm south of Englewood. In 1865, he donated land to the city of Aurora for use as a parkland. In 1876, Englewood became one of thirteen townships within Weld County when it was organized into that county. In 1901, it became part of Aurora Township when Aurora Municipal District was created from parts of six other municipalities. That year also saw the installation of its first public school superintendent: George Wickersham from Newtonia (now Fort Collins). The remains of two buildings from early Englewood are located on State Highway 24 near what is now called Park Meadows Drive: The Academy House andenglewoods Farmstead Museum-House #1 (later known as "Pioneer Hall" because it housed a local bank until 1955), which was built in 1872 and remodeled in 1904; and Pioneer Hall-House #2 (later known as "Elmer's School"), which was built in 1889 and remodeled in 1907. In 1925,Englewood annexed nearby Wadsworth Rancho de la Frontera to form a new municipality; this annexation made it possible for people living outside Auroras Municipality to vote on issues there such as education and zoning changes without having their concerns heard by either municipality's elected officials. On July 1, 1927, all municipalities within Weld County were consolidated under one single government name - Aurora Municipal District - with Engle wood becoming its capital city status according to ordinance adopted that same year by City Councilmember Jens Meyer (D). In 1888, the first post office was chartered in Englewood. In 1901, Englewood erected a schoolhouse and built a church and cemetery. In 1907 it annexed neighboring Aurora. That year also saw the opening of an oil refinery in nearby Golden and production began at what would become one of Colorado's most important refineries. In 1951, during the Korean War, Englewood served as a base for United States Support Air Forces (USAF) Operation Crossroads where troops flew refueling missions over North Korea
