One of these developers was George Prentice who would later rename himself "The Prentice Group." The group purchased several hundred acres of land around Evans in 1912 and began construction on what would become known as The Prentice Center which is now one of downtown Evans' most popular attractions. Throughout its history, The Prentice Center has been home to many different types of events including concerts, meetings, conventions and more. It also served as a depot for the Colorado Central Railroad until it closed down in 1951. Today, parts of The Prentice Center still serve as storage facilities for various businesses located near it while other areas have been renovated into residential units or professional offices space. Today, Evans remains an important cultural center within the Denver-Aurora metropolitan area and is home to many different typesof activities both public and private including art exhibitions, music performances and more. It is also well known for its delicious food options which include restaurants such as Café du Monde (formerly called Cafe Vita), Mrs Claus's Bakery & Cafe (now called Grumpy's) and many more!
