Federal Heights is a city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 6,816 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1876 and named for General George Washington Federal Hill. It became a town in 1902 and it became a city on December 1, 2002. The first post office in Federal Heights was established in 1876. The present building was built in 1902 and served as the town's government center until 1942 when it was destroyed by an act of Congress which declared all buildings within the limits of Federal Heights to be "temporary public buildings." In 1912, the name of the city changed from "Federall Hills" to "Federal Heights". In 1932, the name again changed to "Federal Heights", after becoming an incorporated city. On June 14, 2006, Federal Heights voters passed a referendum that designated themselves as an unofficial county seat for Weld County - making it their third municipality since 2000. As of 2018 there are no plans to re-title the city back to its original name or change its official status within Weld County; instead officials have speculated that they may erect a new City Hall on Ft. Collins Boulevard (the old site of town hall) as part of their redevelopment efforts for federal land holdings around town which borders Interstate 25 eastward into Colorado Springs. The annexation of neighboring unincorporated areas has led to some growth and decreases in crime rates throughout downtown while also creating more opportunities for retail businesses and services along I-25 corridor outside of downtown proper - giving Federal Hews access not only to both jobsites directly across I-25 but also various dining options available just minutes away from home via Interstate 25 business corridors like Loveland & Fort Collins Roads/Highway 76 approach Loop 1604

By 1960, its population had grown to more than 20,000 people thanks to growth within the local housing development program called Pueblo Village II which was initiated by Mayor Harry JahnkeFederal Heights’ first mayor).
