In 1892, Federal Heights became home to the first shooting target holder in Colorado. The man who invented and developed this unique device was named Julius C. Davenport and his company, the Davenport Shooting Company. This company is still in business to this day and manufactures target holders for use at shootings all over the United States. The original target holder was a simple affair consisting of a post with a hole drilled in it and an adjustable height pole attached to it. These championships are still considered to be one of the most important events in target shooting history. Since its inception, Federal Heights has seen an increase in target shooting activity. There have been several tournaments hosted here including the Rocky Mountain Target Shooting Tournament and International Shotgun & Pistol Championship which have drawn top caliber shooters from all over America. In recent years there have also been numerous private contests and meetings being held here with members from different organizations looking to improve their skillset or just get together for some friendly competition.
Federal Heights is a small city in Weld County, Colorado, United States. The population was 7,827 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Weld County and part of the Aurora-Aurora, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was founded in 1876 by Americans who came to this area during the Gold Rush. The first post office in Federal Heights was established in 1879. In 1916, Federal Heights became an incorporated town. On April 14, 2018, Federal Heights voters approved a proposal to become an unincorporated community again under its own governance.

Over time, federal and state government funding has helped to promote development around Interstate 25 and Broadway Street; this has led to an increase in housing prices within Federal Heights boundaries over time. The current incarnation of Federal Heights began to take form in the late 1990s when developers started constructing new subdivisions on tracts located east and west of I-25 and Broadway Street between University Boulevard and National Avenue NW. These developments were intended to provide more affordable housing for low-income residents who resided near local businesses or schools along these streets rather than expensive neighborhoods within the city limits which could be accessed only by driving into downtown Denver or via long walks through tree-lined streets lined with homes built before Interstate 25 was constructed
Federal Heights was founded as a rural town in 1871. It became an important commercial and military center during the Colorado Gold Rush, and soon developed into a major cultural and economic center. The town was renamed Denver in 1903, after U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt, who had helped promote it as a key location for the western gold rush. The city grew rapidly during the 20th century, becoming one of the most populous in America. In 1924, Federal Heights was merged with nearby South Lake Union to form a new city called Seattle; however, this merger failed to take hold and Federal Heights remains its primary residents remain today.
