In 1894, Grand Junction was founded by James W. Hahn and his brothers as a trading post on the banks of the San Juan River. The first store, built at the corner of First and Main streets, was open for only a few weeks before it burned down. In 1895, Hahn and his brothers sold their business to John A. Mears and Benjamin F. Eaton. The new store became known as the G&M Store until 1907 when it moved to its current location across from city hall. In 1911, they added a gunsmithing department which continues to be active today. Over time, the G&M Store became one of the most popular stores in town with customers coming from all over Colorado and Wyoming for their firearms needs.
