Montrose, Colorado is home to many firearm businesses and ammunition manufacturers. In 1882, John Elam built a sawmill on South Five Mile Creek in what is now downtown Montrose. In 1897, William Wesson founded Wesson & Son rifle shop in what is now northwest corner of Main and Kearney Streets in downtown Montrose. By 1903, Wesson had moved his business upriver into what is now Littleton County. From 1907-1910, James Fenton ran a silo at 6th Street and Broadway in downtown Montrose that stored paintball rounds (a precursor to today's airsoft games). In 1912, Howell Manufacturing Company began production of reloadable shotguns (.22 LONG) at their plant east of town on Clydesdale Road. At this time almost all shotgun ammunition was produced by hand from small quantities seized from smugglers during prohibition days across America. The company name changed multiple times but ultimately became Remington Arms Division (now Winchester) after founder George Remington’s death in 1917. Montrose is a town in Arapaho County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo metropolitan area. Montrose was founded in 1867 by Myron Hargrave and his family as a small trading post on thefork of the Animas River near present-day Montrose Village. In 1876, Hargrave donated land to establish what would become Montrose village. In 1907, Mayor Harry Sneath gifted two acres (0.8 km2) of land east of Main Street in Montrose to create an additional block for future development. This block became known as "The Square." One hundred years later, on July 17, 2007, The Square officially became home to Montrose when developer Jeff Kapp purchased it from the City of Pueblo for $1 million. Kapp plans to make use of the square's natural features - including a hilltop cemetery - to create residential and commercial spaces that would provide access from all directions within and around the village core. Kapp has also restored several churches in downtown Montrose and intends to create a park on one side of The Square that would include restaurants, retail stores and public services such as libraries and hospitals

They started a farm on the east side of the river that later became known as Montrose Heights. In 1872, George Montrose and John A. Macdonald bought the farm and began to build their own home there. In 1915, when World War I began, many people from around Colorado came to work in munitions factories in England. One of these workers was J.B., an American who had been living in London since 1913 and had married an English woman named Fanny Goode-Powell when he arrived there that year. After his job at one of these factories ended, J.B.'s family decided to move back to Colorado Springs so he could continue studying engineering at Colorado State University while they looked for another job option back home. J.B.'s brother James also moved to Colorado Springs after finishing his studies at CSU and joined J B.'s family as well; they would eventually become known as The brothers Montrose (or simply The Montroses). James worked as a machinist until 1923 when he retired after twenty years with United Aircraft Corporation because of his age or health problems; this made him the last person ever hired by UAC's predecessor companies Coca-Cola Company, Pepsi Cola Co., Inc., Western Electric Company & General Electric Company among others!
