Smith, and his son George Witherspoon purchased the shotgun from an individual and brought it to town for display at a local fairgrounds. On October 1, 1881, Northglenn formed a city government under the leadership of Mayor John Dicken and appointed J.W. Randall as its first recorder of deeds. In 1889, Northglenn became part of the newly created Denver County andRandall served as county recorder until his death in 1916. Northglenn was founded in 1892 and incorporated as a city on November 5, 1912. It was named for the Scottish mountain town of North Glencoe. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Northglenn in 1892 and they began to farm land that would become known as "The Park". In 1916, the City Council voted to change its name to Northglenn after coming across an article about the new city being established in Seattle, Washington. The reason given for changing the name was that it sounded more like home. In 1984, Northglenn voters passed a resolution approving plans by then- Mayor Tom Landis to add a light rail line to the city center which would have brought jobs and tax dollars into town. After years of planning and engineering work, construction finally began on Line 1 of Denver's MetroRail system on December 15th of that year and opened up Northglenn to its full citizens on January 2nd of 2009! Today, Northglenn is one of Colorado's fastest growing cities with over 60 businesses locating here since 2011 alone! The settlement at Northglenn was founded in 1868 by farmers from the neighboring city of Asotinville. The first post office was established in 1870, and the town took its name from North Glen (now north of Asotinville). It soon became a agricultural center with large holdings in corn, beans, and other crops. By 1902, Northglenn had become an incorporated village. In 1924, as part of a larger effort to attract industries to Grand Junction, the government granted Northglenn a charter as an industrial city. This led to rapid growth in industry and employment within Northglenn until World War II halted that increase. After the war ended, many businesses closed or relocated leaving Northglen with very little economic development for nearly half a century. In the late 1990s and early 2000s new efforts began within both local community and national organizations to revive stalled redevelopment opportunities within what had been once one of America’s most vibrant rural towns – including creating partnerships with universities and business incubation centers; developing public-private partnerships; creating master plans; etc…. In 2011 word spread about an exciting opportunity available for investors in downtown area which would be transformed into a world-class urban center characterized by high quality residential neighborhoods on multi-acre properties near major employers such as Apple Inc., Googleplexes/GOOGL/ Salesforce/ Cumulus Networks; etc….. Northglenn is a town in El Paso County, Colorado, United States. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Statistical Area. Northglenn was founded in 1887 by John W. Goodyear and named for his hometown, north of Phoenixville on the Santa Fe Railroad. The town begins as a small settlement on the east side of Northglenn Creek between what are now Wellington and Thornton Streets and Glengary Avenue. In 1889, Goodyear organized a land grant from then-President George A. Smith to build an artificial lake in honor of his late father's birthplace in Scotland - Glengarry Lake became Northglenn's first community center and its first municipally owned public water supply system. By 1893, goodyear had also built a sawmill, gristmill, flour mill and other businesses around what became Northglenn's core business district or "town square". In 1898 Gifford Pinchot became U.S. Senator from Colorado and toured the area looking for new home sites for his constituents; he recommended that residents move to Northglenn because of its central location within easy commuting distance of most major cities in Colorado Springs (includingDenver). In 1899 both Pinchot and Mayor Edwin Kapp donated land to form Aurora Park which later became part of University Village with Riddle Hall addition in 1906 as well as many other buildings over time including branch libraries (1913), high school (1927), post office (1937) & recreation building (1960). 2 miles east from Aurora Park along N Broadway were two telegraph poles used during World War I by Signal Corps personnel warningffield all along this line about German submarines activity off US coasts; these poles remain standing today near current day intersection Of E Broad Street And N 15th Ave NW
